Saggese has been promoted by the Cardinals from Double-A Springfield to Triple-A Memphis, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. Acquired from the Rangers in the Jordan Montgomery trade, Saggese sported a blistering .331/.403/.662 slash line with 10 home runs and three stolen bases in 33 games for Springfield to earn the promotion. All told, he boasts a .937 OPS with 25 long balls and 11 steals at the Double-A level this season. Saggese won't turn 22 until April but has set himself up for a potential debut at some point next season if he continues to impress.... See More ... See Less

Cardinals' Thomas Saggese: Sent to St. Louis
The Cardinals acquired Saggese, right-hander Tekoah Roby and left-hander John King from the Rangers on Sunday in exchange for left-hander Jordan Montgomery and right-hander Chris Stratton, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Of the three minor-league players heading back to St. Louis, Saggese projects to have the most long-term real-life and fantasy value. The 21-year-old has dabbled at shortstop, second base and third base during his time at Double-A Frisco this season, but he'll probably be a better fit defensively at one of the latter two positions once he reaches the big leagues. Saggese lacks any standout tools but has been a well above league-average hitter at each stop in the minors since being selected by Texas in the fifth round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft. Over 417 plate appearances with Frisco this season, Saggese slashed .320/.385/.522 with an 8.5 percent walk rate, a 22.5 percent strikeout rate, 15 home runs and eight steals (in 10 attempts).... Rangers' Thomas Saggese: Climbs to Double-A
The Rangers promoted Saggese to Double-A Frisco on Monday, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports. With High-A Hickory's season coming to an end over the weekend, Saggese and outfield prospect Evan Carter will receive cups of coffee down the stretch for Frisco, where both players are likely to open the 2023 campaign. Saggese, a 20-year-old infielder, slashed .308/.359/.487 with 14 home runs and 11 stolen bases across 419 plate appearances for Hickory.... See More ... See Less

Bernie Miklasz@miklasz19H agoI look at the '24 Cardinals and how rarely they pull flyballs for power -- a huge reason for their puny HR total -- I wanted to look at Jim Edmonds. I don't have the data before 2002. But from 2002-2006 Jimmy batted .579, slammed 71 HRs and slugged 2.012 on pulled fly balls.
