Allen (thumb) was activated from the minor-league injured list Wednesday at High-A Dayton. Allen wound up missing nearly three full months after suffering a left thumb UCL sprain in the third game of the Midwest League season. The 20-year-old outfielder was selected 30th overall by the Reds in the 2021 MLB Draft and can now continue his ascent through their minor-league system.

  • Reds' Jay Allen: Elbow feeling fine

Reds manager David Bell said "all is well" regarding Allen's elbow injury, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. The 20-year-old outfield prospect is currently hitting 2-for-5 this spring and will likely begin the season with High-A Dayton.

Allen was removed from Monday's Cactus League game versus the Brewers with an apparent injury, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. • Reds' Jay Allen: Moves up to High-A

Allen went 0-for-4 with a strikeout Tuesday for High-A Dayton after receiving a promotion from Single-A Daytona. Allen earned the bump up to High-A after he slashed .230/.360/.348 with four home runs and 31 stolen bases in 301 plate appearances for Daytona. The 19-year-old outfielder showed a discerning eye at the plate (13.8 percent walk rate), and his 6-foot-3 frame should lend itself well to increasing his power production as he adds more strength.

  • Reds' Jay Allen: Ticketed for Daytona

Allen will likely begin the 2022 season for Low-A Daytona in the Florida State League, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. He hit .328/.440/.557 in the Arizona Complex League after getting drafted with the 30th overall pick in last year's draft. Allen has really impressed the Reds with his athleticism and early results, though the team has cautioned that he's still really raw. He's been working a lot with Eric Davis, who is now a special assistant to the general manager for player development. "Jay still has a lot of high school tendencies, which is normal," Davis said. "He still runs high school-ish and throws high school-ish, but his talent is enormous."
