Capitals' Matt Roy: Won't play vs. Pittsburgh
Roy (rest) won't play in Washington's season finale against Pittsburgh on Thursday, according to Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post.
The Capitals are taking the unusual step of dressing 13 forwards and five defensemen as they look ahead to the playoffs. Roy will finish the regular season with three goals, 24 points, 114 hits and 113 blocks in 69 outings. He'll probably be back in the lineup for Game 1 of Washington's first-round series against Montreal on Monday.

Capitals' Matt Roy: At practice Friday
Roy (personal) was back at practice ahead of Friday's clash with the Blackhawks, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports.
Roy's return to the team following a two-game stint away should see him reclaim a spot on the blue line versus Chicago -- a move that likely means Dylan McIlrath will be back in the press box as a healthy scratch. In his last five outings, the 20-year-old Roy has generated one goal, two assists and nine shots while dishing out six hits and recording six blocks.

Capitals' Matt Roy: Won't play Tuesday
Roy (personal) is not with the Capitals on their road trip and will not be available Tuesday in Boston, according to Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post.
Since Roy isn't with the team, it's unlikely he'll be available for the second half of Washington's back-to-back set against Carolina on Wednesday. Dylan McIlrath will fill a bottom-pairing role against the Bruins on Tuesday. Roy has provided three goals, 21 helpers and a plus-28 rating over 63 appearances in 2024-25.

Capitals' Matt Roy: Lights the lamp Thursday
Roy tallied a goal and blocked two shots in Thursday's 4-2 loss to the Wild.
Roy lit the lamp for the first of two goals scored by the Capitals in a two-minute span midway through the first period. Thursday's tally ended a 24-game goalless drought for Roy, who has been much more of a playmaker this season with 12 assists in that span. The 30-year-old defenseman is up to 24 points, 76 shots on goal and 103 hits in 62 appearances this season. Despite the lack of goal support, the defensive pairing of Roy and Martin Fehervary has been an effective playmaking duo down the stretch for Washington. Roy has received 19:44 of ice time per game and has decent value in deeper leagues for the fantasy playoffs.

Roy logged an assist in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Panthers.
Roy has a helper in back-to-back contests, and he's earned three assists with a plus-8 rating over his last six outings. While he doesn't play premium minutes for offense, he's been a fixture in the Capitals' lineup as a shutdown defender. Capitals' Matt Roy: Manages helper
Roy logged an assist, two shots on goal, three blocked shots and a plus-4 rating in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Ducks.
Roy has three assists and a plus-10 rating over his last seven outings. The 30-year-old defenseman isn't one to score a lot, instead keeping his focus on his own zone a majority of the time. He's still managed to put together a fine campaign with 21 points, 65 shots on net, 95 hits, 96 blocked shots and a plus-27 rating across 55 appearances. Fantasy managers in need of category coverage can consider Roy as long as they aren't looking for power-play production.

Roy notched an assist in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the Lightning.
Roy set up Alex Ovechkin for the goal that put the legendary winger 10 tallies away from tying Wayne Gretzky's record. For the season, the 30-year-old blueliner has reached the 20-point mark with 56 shots on net, 93 hits, 81 blocked shots and a plus-19 rating. He's hit 20 points four years in a row and will now attempt to match his career high of 26 points from the 2022-23 campaign.

Capitals' Matt Roy: Bags apple Thursday
Roy tallied an assist and dished out two hits during Thursday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Senators.
Despite missing 10 games with a lower-body injury, Roy has still managed a healthy two goals and 12 points in 41 games which would put him in line for another 25-plus season if he can keep up this pace the rest of the way. The 29-year-old has been an invaluable defensive presence for the Capitals, but a lack of offensive upside limits his fantasy value.

Roy scored a goal, blocked two shots and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Oilers.
Roy has three points over his last seven outings, but this was his first goal since Nov. 23. The 29-year-old defenseman continues to see top-four minutes in a shutdown role for the Capitals, leading to limited looks on offense. Roy scored an even-strength goal in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Devils.
Roy opened the scoring with his first goal of the season in the first period of Saturday's loss. The right-shot blueliner missed 10 games earlier in the campaign due to a lower-body injury, but he's offered steady production while skating alongside Rasmus Sandin in a top-four capacity. Roy has points in three of his last six games, and overall, he's notched a goal, three assists and a plus-3 rating through 10 appearances.

Capitals' Matt Roy: Puts up assist
Roy logged an assist, three blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Golden Knights.
Roy has three helpers over six games since he returned from a lower-body injury. That accounts for all of his offense through seven appearances this year. The 29-year-old defenseman usually puts up fine depth offense from the blue line, but he's been a little lacking in the physical stats with 12 hits and 10 blocked shots so far.

Capitals' Matt Roy: Logs helper in return
Roy notched an assist, three shots on goal, five hits, three blocked shots and two PIM in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Predators.
Roy returned from a 10-game absence due to a lower-body injury and immediately reclaimed a top-four role. He saw 20:07 of ice time on the second pairing. The 29-year-old defenseman offers modest offense, but he should be a decent source of non-scoring production, particularly blocked shots and hits, going forward.
