Salo, Julien Gauthier, Brian Pinho, Dennis Cholowski and Karson Kuhlman were recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Tuesday, per CapFriendly.

Salo was demoted to AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday.
Salo hasn't logged a game for the Isles since Dec. 22, a stretch of eight games as a healthy scratch. While the 24-year-old defenseman, or somebody else, could be brought up before Thursday's matchup with Minnesota, the move would seem to indicate that Adam Pelech (head) is nearing a return to action.

Islanders' Robin Salo: Healthy scratch once again
Salo was a healthy scratch for the seventh straight game Friday versus the Flames.
Salo hasn't played since a 5-3 loss to the Rangers on Dec. 22. He made a couple of defensive miscues in that contest and has been relegated to the bench ever since. Adam Pelech is still out of the lineup due to a head injury, but rather than play Salo, coach Lane Lambert has gone with Parker Wotherspoon. Lambert doesn't seem to be in any rush to reinsert Salo into the lineup.

Salo will be a healthy scratch for the 13th straight game Saturday versus the Stars, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
Salo is considered one of the top defensive prospects for the Islanders, so it's a bit surprising that he's been stapled to the bench for this long. There seem to be two things at play here. First, Sebastian Aho has played better than expected, earning a nightly spot in the lineup. Additionally, the Islanders don't have another defenseman in their organization that they trust to be the emergency defender, so they don't want to denote Salo to the AHL. Ross Johnston was also a healthy scratch Saturday as Josh Bailey returned to the lineup.

Salo is once again a healthy scratch Thursday versus the Blues.
This is the fifth straight game that Salo will be scratched following his recall from Bridgeport of the AHL. Coming into the season, Salo was considered to be the sixth defenseman for the Islanders but was sent down to the AHL due to a roster crunch, as well as the fact that he didn't need to pass through waivers. Salo is considered to be one of the top defensive prospects for the team, and his next chance to play will be Saturday afternoon versus the Red Wings.

It was his first multi-point game. Salo is a great skater who can move the puck, but this outburst was a bit of a surprise. His ceiling is likely as second-unit power-play point man who is protected on the defensive side of the puck.

Islanders' Robin Salo: Will open season with team
Salo has secured a spot on the Islanders as the sixth defenseman, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
This was to be expected, as the Isles had two spots open on defense due to the losses of Zdeno Chara and Andy Greene this past offseason. Salo will provide the Islanders with something they are sorely lacking on defense, which is the ability to skate the puck out of their own zone. Salo's best asset is his skating ability, but how many minutes he plays each game likely depends upon how he handles his defensive responsibilities.
