Flyers' Samuel Ersson: Signs two-year contract
Ersson signed a two-year, $2.9 million contract extension with Philadelphia on Saturday.
Ersson 's contract will begin in the 2024-25 season, as he still has one year remaining on his entry-level deal. Ersson was 6-3-0 with a 3.07 GAA and .899 save percentage in 12 games with the Flyers last season. He spent most of the year with AHL Lehigh Valley, where he went 24-17-1 with a 2.84 GAA and .900 save percentage. Ersson was red-hot to begin his NHL career, winning his first six starts before losing his final three decisions. Ersson will likely see more time at the AHL level this season, as he needs to play, but he could challenge for a roster spot the following season.

Ersson started in Philadelphia's last two games, stopping 55 of 61 shots while losing both contests. Ersson was decent in his last start Sunday versus the Penguins, stopping 27 of 30 shots, but he still came away with a loss due to insufficient goal support from his teammates. Ersson allowed a pair of goals to Rickard Rakell in the first period and another to Bryant Rust in the second. The Flyers would score twice in the third to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Ryan Poehling's empty-netter would eventually seal the game. It's the second loss of the season for Ersson, who was making his first start since Feb. 20 with Carter Hart (lower body) unavailable. By the time Ersson entered the contest, the Kraken already held a 4-0 lead. The 23-year-old did alright -- there was no stopping Yanni Gourde's power-play tally, and Matty Beniers scored on a breakaway off a turnover. Ersson still has yet to lose at the NHL level. He's 5-0-0 with a 2.50 GAA and a .913 save percentage through eight appearances. The Flyers are currently carrying three goalies on their active roster, so it's unclear if Ersson will get a chance to start in Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton during the remainder of the road trip.
