Knowles signed a one-year contract with the 49ers on Tuesday.

Knowles was signed to the Packers' practice squad Oct. 16, but he has not been elevated to the active roster. The 24-year-old wide receiver out of Kansas State has not played in a regular-season game since being signed by the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in April of 2023.

The Kansas State product was waived by the Vikings in early September with an injury settlement, but signing with the Packers' practice squad suggests he's moved past the issue. Knowles has yet to appear in an NFL game, but he posted a 48-725-2 receiving line in his final collegiate season in 2022.

Knowles caught his only target for a one-yard touchdown and returned one kickoff for 24 yards in Saturday's 27-12 preseason win over the Browns.
The undrafted receiver out of Kansas State missed all of last season with an undisclosed injury, and he also began training camp dealing with an injury that kept him out of the Vikings' preseason opener. Knowles was in the lineup Saturday, however, and looked pretty healthy, leaping high to snag a one-yard corner fade from Jaren Hall at the back of the end zone on Minnesota's first possession of the second half. Knowles' ability to return kickoffs -- he had 1,254 return yards over his final two years at Kansas State -- could give him an edge on winning at least a spot on the practice squad given the NFL's changes to the kickoff rules this season.

Knowles, Thayer Thomas and Cephus Johnson, who's being converted from quarterback to wide receiver, all joined Minnesota's crowded wideout group following the 2023 NFL Draft, but they'll likely be long shots to make the initial 53-man roster. During his final season at Kansas State, Knowles caught 48 passes for 725 yards and two touchdowns while rushing eight times for 164 yards and three additional scores. The 6-foot-3 wideout also has experience as a kick returner, totaling three return touchdowns over five collegiate campaigns.
