  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Remains on injury report

McFadden (neck) is questionable for Thursday's game against the 49ers, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.

McFadden was listed as a limited participant on the team's first two injury reports of the week. The second-year pro played 75 percent of the team's defensive snaps in each of the first two games, so it's not clear when he may have picked up the injury. With Azeez Ojulari (hamstring) already ruled out for the game, if McFadden is also unable to suit up, it'd be a blow to the team's linebacker corps.

  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Leading tackler in bad loss

McFadden tallied 11 tackles (four solo), including one for loss, in Sunday's season-opening blowout defeat to the Cowboys.

The Giants offense looked completely lost throughout the contest, though New York had the time-of-possession edge due largely to a pair of Dallas defensive touchdowns. There wasn't much the team's defense could do to prevent a blowout, though McFadden was able to put together a strong individual stat line with a team-leading 11 stops. The second-year linebacker has earned a starting role this season after totaling 59 tackles (36 solo), two sacks and a forced fumble over 17 games as a rookie last year.

  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Still expected to start

McFadden is likely to begin the regular season as a starter despite the Giants' recent acquisition of Isaiah Simmons, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

McFadden appears to have the edge on the depth chart over Darrian Beavers, who missed all of his rookie campaign last year due to a torn ACL. The versatile Simmons was brought in through a trade with the Cardinals on Thursday and is slated to also play linebacker, but Duggan expects McFadden to remain the starter in the base defense while Simmons likely works in sub-packages. McFadden's role is far from written in stone, though, so he'll need to make a good impression in order to remain with the starting unit long-term.

  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Works up to big role as rookie

McFadden finished the regular season with 59 tackles (36 solo), including two sacks, and forced one fumble over 17 games in his rookie campaign.

While McFadden played in every game for the Giants this season, there was a three-game stretch between Weeks 5 and 7 during which he logged a combined four defensive snaps. However, the rookie out of Indiana subsequently displaced Tae Crowder as a starter and played at least 40 percent of New York's defensive snaps in every contest from Week 8 onward. McFadden tallied at least seven tackles in three of his final six contests to gain momentum heading into the playoffs, and he appears to have worked his way into the team's future plans with his solid campaign.

  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Second-leading tackler Saturday

McFadden tallied eight tackles (three solo) during Saturday's 27-24 loss to the Vikings.

McFadden tied with cornerback Fabian Moreau for the Giants' second-most tackles behind veteran linebacker Jaylon Smith. The rookie has now played at least 44 percent of defensive snaps in every game since the team's Week 9 bye. McFadden will look to build upon his 47 tackles this coming Sunday versus the Colts.

  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Practices fully Wednesday

McFadden (neck) was a full participant at practice Wednesday ahead of Sunday's game at Washington, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.

McFadden was forced out of the Giants' loss versus Philadelphia in Week 14 early with a neck injury, but it now appears he should be good to go Sunday night. The rookie fifth-rounder should step back in as a starting linebacker next to Jaylon Smith in Week 15.

  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Questionable to return Sunday

McFadden exited Sunday's game against the Eagles with a neck injury, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

McFadden logged five solo tackles before sustaining this injury against Philadelphia, and his return is now up in the air. With the starting inside linebacker sidelined for the time being, Tae Crowder and Cam Brown could be in line for increased usage Sunday.

  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Career day in tie

McFadden recorded nine tackles (four solo) and a forced fumble during the 20-20 tie against the Commanders on Sunday.

McFadden finished tied for second on the team in tackles and was also one of three players to force a fumble. The rookie fifth-round pick had the best game of his career, setting new highs in both tackles and snaps played. McFadden played more than 60 percent of the team's snaps for the second week in a row as his usage has continued to increase as the season goes on.

  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Gets chance to start

McFadden will start Sunday's contest against Houston in place of Tae Crowder, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.

Crowder is being benched, paving the way for McFadden to step into a starting role. The rookie fifth-round pick has totaled 14 tackles (10 solo) and one sack across 104 defensive snaps, but he'll likely have increased production as a starter.

  • Giants' Micah McFadden: Candidate for starting role

McFadden could take over as a starter at inside linebacker in the wake of Blake Martinez's release, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports.

Martinez was initially expected to play a three-down role for New York's defense this season, but the Giants will need to look for a replacement after they surprisingly released him Thursday. McFadden, who was a fifth-round pick in this year's draft, could slide in as a starter following a strong preseason. Even if he doesn't start, McFadden's role will almost certainly be boosted as a result of Martinez's departure.
