Buccaneers' Zyon McCollum: Strong second season
McCollum recorded 68 tackles (49 solo), nine passes defensed and two forced fumbles across 17 regular-season games in 2023. He added nine tackles (eight solo) in two postseason contests.
McCollum, a 2022 fifth-round pick, saw a major boost across the board in his second season, including a near 500-snap increase in plays from scrimmage (268 to 748). The Sam Houston State product filled a rotational role at cornerback, but he had plenty of opportunities to run with the first-team defense with both Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean missing time with various injuries. Davis is slated for a $20 million-plus cap hit in 2024, so there may be a scenario where McCollum can slot into a starting cornerback role on a full-time basis next season.

Buccaneers' Zyon McCollum: Solid outing in loss
McCollum logged seven total tackles (five solo) in Sunday's 23-13 loss to the Saints.
The second-year cornerback out of Sam Houston State filled in for the injured Carlton Davis (concussion) in Week 17 and he finished tied for the Buccaneers' second-leading tackler. McCollum has now started nine of the 16 games he's appeared in this year, recording 65 total tackles, nine pass deflections and two forced fumbles. Even if Davis returns to the field in Week 18, McCollum will likely see lots of work in Tampa Bay's secondary going forward.

McCollum recorded nine tackles (six solo), two passes defensed and one forced fumble during Sunday's 29-25 win over the Falcons.
McCollum again played 100 percent of defensive snaps with Jamel Dean (ankle) out for a third straight game. While it's possible Dean could retake the field Week 15 versus the Packers, Carlton Davis (groin) was forced out Sunday against Atlanta, meaning the Buccaneers could again be a man down at cornerback. That leaves multiple possible paths for McCollum to continue handling more than a depth role.

Buccaneers' Zyon McCollum: Racks up tackles in Week 12 loss
McCollum recorded nine tackles (six solo), including one for loss, in the Buccaneers' 27-20 loss to the Colts on Sunday.
The second-year cornerback's surprisingly high tackle total was the second highest on the day for the Buccaneers as McCollum filled in for Jamel Dean (ankle). McCollum, a 2022 fifth-round pick, has 38 stops on the season already to outpace his rookie-season total of 24, which was accomplished in two additional games. McCollum is still in search of his first career interception, but he's now allowing an elite 36.4 percent completion rate on 33 attempts in primary coverage and has five defensed passes over 11 games.

McCollum is expected to start for the injured Carlton Davis (toe) ahead of Sunday's game against the Titans, Scott Smith of the Buccaneers' official site reports.
McCollum saw increased opportunities last week, as he stepped in for the injured Jamel Dean, and he was able to tally six total tackles and one pass deflection in Tampa Bay's loss. With Davis missing time, the second-year cornerback out of Sam Houston State will start alongside Dean this Sunday. McCollum has recorded 23 total tackles and four pass deflections in eight appearances this season.

McCollum played on all 80 defensive snaps with Carlton Davis (toe) sidelined and Jamel Dean exiting with neck and shoulder injuries after 38 snaps. The speedy McCollum acquitted himself well overall, and with Dean failing to practice Wednesday, the former could be trusted with a starting assignment in what profiles as a tough Week 4 road matchup versus the Saints' talented group of receivers.

Buccaneers' Zyon McCollum: Looking for big Year 2 leap
McCollum, who finished with two assisted tackles and an interception across 33 snaps in the Buccaneers' preseason-opening loss to the Steelers, is attempting to learn how to harness his elite speed and improve his tackling during his upcoming second season, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
McCollum put together a solid rookie campaign after being selected in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft, posting 24 tackles (18 solo) and a defensed pass across 268 defensive snaps while also logging another 225 plays on special teams as a gunner. McCollum, who boasts 4.33 speed, is working this summer on learning to play with more "controlled speed," including when positioning himself for tackles. In Friday's preseason loss to the Steelers, McCollum's top-end velocity played an integral part in his second-quarter interception, but he also ended up overrunning a tackle opportunity on Pittsburgh's George Pickens in the opening period that led to a touchdown for the talented second-year wideout.

McCollum apparently sustained a concussion when he collided with San Francisco safety George Odum on a Buccaneers punt in the second quarter, per Laine. The rookie cornerback will now have one week to clear concussion protocol before Tampa Bay faces the Bengals on Sunday, Dec. 18. McCollum had stepped up into a bigger role with Sean Murphy-Bunting (quadriceps) once again inactive Week 14, so his absence will likely leave Dee Delaney to fill in for this depleted secondary.
