The Browns might have drafted TE/FB Brad Smelley partially because they were dissatisfied with 2011 draftee Owen Marecic, who contributed little last season. Smelley brings greater versatility. Coach Pat Shurmur emphasized that Smelley boasts the same capability as TE Alex Smith, who has been used as a blocking back.
