Defensive end Andre Carter is visiting the Raiders on Tuesday, a league source tells CBSSports.com's Jason La Canfora.

Carter, who recorded 10 sacks last season for the Patriots but is still healing from a torn quadriceps, is one of the few potential impact free agents on the market. Several teams have been monitoring his recovery, and this will mark his second trip to Oakland.

The former 49ers first-round pick visited the Raiders prior to the start of the season. He also has visited the Rams and Cardinals. Meanwhile, New England, where Carter shined last season, remains in close contact.

Carter, 33, was drafted out of California in 2001. He spent five years in San Francisco and another five years with the Redskins before playing for New England in 2011. In 163 career games he has 76 sacks.
