The Chicago Bulls have reportedly agreed to sign unrestricted free-agent center Kyrylo Fesenko to a non-guaranteed training camp contract, according to ESPN.com and SI.com.
Fesenko, 25, hails from the Ukraine and was a second-round pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. He spent the first four seasons of his career with the Utah Jazz before signing with the Indiana Pacers in March. Fesenko played just three games for the Pacers down the stretch last season.
During his five-year NBA tenure, Fesenko holds career averages of 2.3 points and 2.0 rebounds per game. Listed at 7 feet 1 and 288 pounds, Fesenko is the opposite of graceful, but he isn't afraid of a little contact.
The Bulls are entering what could potentially be a lost season due to the long-term knee injury suffered by All-Star guard Derrick Rose. If he sticks, Fesenko would provide depth behind starting center Joakim Noah and reserve Nazr Mohammed, who signed with the Bulls after spending a season-plus with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Also this summer, Chicago elected not to match Houston's three-year, $25 million offer sheet to reserve center Omer Asik, allowing him to join the Rockets. Despite that departure, Chicago's big-man rotation -- made up of Noah, Mohammed, starting power forward Carlos Boozer and reserve power forward Taj Gibson -- is still pretty solid, assuming everyone is in good health.
