Toney Douglas is on the trading block? (Getty Images)
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Jeremy Lin goes from benchwarmer to starter? Toney Douglas goes from starter to benchwarmer.

And now, reportedly, to the trade block. ESPNNY.com reports that_the New York Knicks are shopping their reserve guard in advance of Thursday's NBA Trade Deadline.
A source told ESPNNewYork.com on Tuesday that the Knicks are exploring trade options involving Toney Douglas.

No specific names have surfaced as to who the Knicks may target for Douglas, but chances are they could go after another big-man defender and rebounder.
Douglas, 25, is averaging 7.6 points, 2.2 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 26 games for the Knicks this season. Most of that production came in the early season, as Douglas has seen time in just one game over the last month thanks to Lin.

In his third season out of Florida State, Douglas is on the books for $1.1 million this season and $2.1 million in 2012-2013. Given his lack of playing time and his struggles running the point guard position earlier this year, his trade value is probably approaching a career-low.

Trading small-for-big is tough any time, especially at the deadline, when big men are coveted by playoff teams more than any other time on the NBA calendar. If you're New York, you have nothing to lose by floating his name out there and finding a path to roster balance is a worthwhile dream. If you're Douglas, it's not the worst thing either, given the logjam in front of you and the fact that your NBA future and earning power hinge on getting minutes over the next 18 months.

The only question is whether there's an opportunistic GM who believes taking a chance on Douglas is worth his $2 million contract next season. Parting with any real assets here would be unnecessary.
