  • Royals' Brady Singer: Falters late versus Washington

Singer did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over five innings during a 4-2 loss to Washington. He struck out six.

Singer tossed five shutout frames but was pulled with no outs in the sixth after allowing back-to-back hits to lead off the inning. It was a solid bounce-back performance for the right-hander, who served up five runs over 3.2 innings his last time out, but he is still struggling with walks and has allowed multiple free passes in each of his past six starts. During that stretch, Singer sports 7.57 ERA, 1.87 WHIP and 25:17 K:BB over 27.1 innings. The Royals' ace issued 35 walks across 27 outings (153.1 innings) last year, but he already has 23 over 54.1 innings in 2023.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Lasts only 3.2 innings Monday

Singer didn't factor into the decision in Monday's 8-5 loss to the Tigers in 10 innings after allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three batters over 3.2 innings.

Singer had major problems with his control in the outing, throwing just 49 of 87 pitches for strikes and walking a season-high four batters. The right-hander allowed three first-inning runs and another pair in the third, and he departed with two outs in the fourth after issuing a free pass to the final batter he faced. Singer's ERA ballooned to 7.48 as a result of the rough outing, second worst among hurlers who have tossed at least 40 innings. This was certainly a step back after he posted a quality start in each of his previous two appearances.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Decent in win

Singer (3-4) earned the win Tuesday over the Padres, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in six innings.

The Royals' defense let Singer down in the fifth inning, and he had some more trouble in the sixth. The bullpen was able to preserve a one-run lead over the last three frames to end his three-start winless skid. The right-hander trimmed his ERA to 7.09 with a 1.53 WHIP and 40:16 K:BB through 45.2 innings over nine starts. Singer's very rarely been anywhere between excellent or awful this season, with this start being the most moderate of the bunch. He's projected for two starts next week, with the first likely at home against the Tigers.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Pitches well in no-decision

Singer did not factor in the decision against the White Sox on Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over six innings.

Singer was in desperate need of a strong performance after allowing 13 runs across 6.2 innings over his previous two starts. He rebounded nicely against Chicago, notching his second quality start of the campaign. Singer wasn't overpowering, but he allowed just five hits and retired eight of the final nine batters he faced. The right-hander's ERA still sits at an unattractive 7.71, and it will likely take an extended stretch of positive outings for fantasy managers to regain confidence in him.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Tagged for five runs

Singer (2-4) took the loss Saturday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over four innings in a 5-4 loss against the Athletics. He struck out four.

Singer's rocky start to the season continued Saturday, as he gave up at least five runs for the fifth time in seven starts while taking his fourth loss in his last five appearances. Considering Singer owns an abysmal 8.82 ERA and 1.60 WHIP while the Royals score the fifth-fewest runs in MLB, Singer isn't currently an attractive fantasy option.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Lit up for eight runs in loss

Singer (2-3) was handed the loss Sunday against the Twins after giving up eight runs on five hits and three walks over 2.2 innings. He struck out five in the effort.

Singer allowed a run in the second and then completely unraveled in the third. He struck out two of the first three hitters he faced in the inning but could not get the final out. He walked two batters before Byron Buxton opened things up with a three-run blast to left. The next four batters would then reach on three base hits and a hit-by-pitch, tallying two more runs for the Twins. Singer was replaced by Josh Staumont with runners on first and third and was charged with two more runs before Staumont could close the door on the inning. After Sunday's outing, Singer now leads the majors in giving up 56 hard-hit balls over just 29.2 innings. It's been a disappointing first month of the season for him, and he now sits at an 8.49 ERA, which is the worst among all qualified starting pitchers in baseball. The 26-year-old should have an opportunity to get back on track with a projected matchup against Oakland next weekend.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Handles Arizona for second win

Singer (2-2) got the win Tuesday night against the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on five hits and no walks while striking out five over six innings.

Singer scattered five hits in the effort and his lone blemish of the day came in the fourth, as Corbin Carroll led off the inning with a triple and scored on a groundball from Christian Walker. The 26-year-old surpassed 90 pitches for a second straight start and reached six innings for the second time this season as well. He generated 10 whiffs with seven of them coming from his slider. It was undoubtedly Singer's most complete performance so far this year, and he'll carry a 6.67 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 24:6 K:BB (27 innings) into his next start, tentatively scheduled for this weekend against the Twins.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Can't contain Texas in loss

Singer (1-2) took the loss Wednesday, allowing five runs on six hits and three walks over five innings against the Rangers. He struck out four.

Despite not allowing a homer, Singer gave up at least one run in three of his five innings, and he's now served up five or more runs in each of his past three outings after he started the season strong against the Blue Jays (one run in five innings). He'll look to bounce back next week during Kansas City's three-game road set in Arizona.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Gets hit hard early

Singer (1-1) took the loss Friday, allowing eight runs on 10 hits and zero walks over five innings against Atlanta. He struck out eight.

Singer served up seven runs in the first two frames, but he was able to settle down and get through five innings for a third straight game. After allowing just one run in his season debut, the right-hander has given up 13 runs over his past two outings, though he did post a 12:0 K:BB during those contests. Singer is tentatively scheduled to pitch next versus the Rangers.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Allows five but no decision

Singer did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing five runs on eight hits and zero walks over six innings against San Francisco. He struck out four.

Singer was bailed out by the Kansas City offense as they were able to come from behind and prevent a loss for the right-hander. Most of the damage was done in the fourth as the Giants scored four times in that frame, including a homer by LaMonte Wade. The 26-year-old pitched well over five frames against the Blue Jays on Monday, but this was a mediocre effort for Singer, at best. A chance to rebound is scheduled for next week against Atlanta.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Rides groundballs to victory

Singer (1-0) gave up one earned run on two hits and three walks while striking out three batters in five innings Monday against the Blue Jays. He picked up the win.

Singer cruised to the win in his first start of the season, as his counterpart Jose Berrios coughed up eight runs in less than six frames. Singer was on his game, as he generated 61.5 percent groundballs in this one to help offset the lack of strikeouts. His second start of the week is scheduled for Saturday in San Francisco.

  • Royals' Brady Singer: Struggling at WBC

Singer gave up four runs on four hits over two innings in his lone appearance for Team USA at the World Baseball Classic.

Fantasy managers should be concerned for a couple of reasons. One is that Singer has made just three competitive appearances between Cactus League and WBC play. He's also logged just 6.2 innings this spring, which leaves some doubts about how stretched out he'll be to begin the regular season. With Singer's poor performance on the international stage, his usage has been limited. He should be fine long-term, but with the USA making a deep run in the tournament, he'll likely get only one or two more outings in the Cactus League before the 2023 campaign gets underway.
