An earlier report indicated Wrobleski would be pitching behind an opener Sunday, but the southpaw now appears on track to make his 21st start of the season. Wrobleski had a great first half and was named to his first All-Star team, but he's had a rough go ever since, posting a 7.07 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 31:9 K:BB while serving up 12 homers over 28 innings spanning six outings since the break. Sunday's contest may end up being just a spot start for Wrobleski, as Roki Sasaki (finger) could come off the injured list as soon as next week. Wrobleski is also likely to have a workload restriction in place after he hadn't started since Aug. 15 and made one two-inning, 36-pitch relief appearance in his lone outing since coming back from the IL on Sept. 1.

Wrobleski was activated off the injured list Tuesday afternoon after recovering from a bout of left forearm inflammation. The left-hander worked out of the bullpen for the second time this season, entering in the seventh inning with Los Angeles down six runs. Wrobleski gave up a Joshua Baez solo homer in his first frame but did manage to strike out the side. He gave up two more runs -- one of which was unearned -- in the eighth and struggled with his control, walking one batter and uncorking a wild pitch. It's been a rough second half for Wrobleski, as he's followed his first career All-Star nod by posting a 7.07 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 31:9 K:BB over 28 innings across six second-half appearances. The long ball has been a huge problem during that span -- he's given up 12 homers, including multiple in three of those outings. Wrobleski figures to work in middle and long relief down the stretch, which will give him a chance to iron out his recent issues ahead of the postseason.

Wrobleski will head to the IL for the first time this season after the injury apparently cropped up during his start in the Dodgers' 4-1 loss to the Brewers on Saturday, when he struck out six batters while allowing four earned runs on four hits and one walk across six innings. The Dodgers recalled right-hander Kyle Hurt from Triple-A Oklahoma City in a corresponding move to add a fresh arm to the bullpen, but it's unclear if Wrobleski will be replaced in the six-man rotation or if Los Angeles will proceed with five starters for the time being. Wrobleski will be eligible for reinstatement Sept. 1, when the Dodgers' active roster expands to 28 men. Even if Wrobleski is ready to go by then, he could be ticketed for a relief role. Wrobleski was mostly effective, racking up 15 whiffs on 107 pitches and allowing as many baserunners as innings pitched (six). However, two of the hits he allowed left the park, and both were two-run shots. Wrobleski has now given up 11 home runs over 19.2 innings across his past four starts while taking three losses during that span. He made his first career All-Star team on the strength of a 2.69 first-half ERA, but that number has increased by nearly a run (to 3.56) due to what has been a rough second half. On most staffs, Wrobleski's impressive pre-break performance would be enough to keep him comfortably in a starting role despite his recent struggles, but that's not a guarantee with the Dodgers. The Dodgers' offense gave Wrobleski a nice early cushion, producing three runs in the top of the first inning. However, the left-hander allowed Chicago to quickly close the gap when he surrendered a two-run homer to Carson Kelly in the bottom of the frame. The Cubs went on to crush three more long balls against Wrobleski, marking his second straight start in which he's allowed four home runs. Prior to the pair of outings, Wrobleski had allowed just eight homers across his first 106.2 frames spanning 17 starts, so he's clearly hit a rough patch. According to Jack Harris of the California Post, both Wrobleski and Dave Roberts said after the game that the hurler may be tipping his pitches, and the team is planning to look into whether that's the case. With an 11-3 overall record, a 3.31 ERA and his first career All-Star nod under his belt, Wrobleski has likely earned some leash in terms of holding onto a starting spot through his recent struggles, though Los Angeles' embarrassment of pitching riches means he could be vying with Roki Sasaki for the No. 6 rotation spot when all of Shohei Ohtani (knee), Blake Snell (elbow) and Tyler Glasnow (back) are ready to rejoin Yoshinabu Yamamoto and Tarik Skubal in the rotation.

Wrobleski was done in by the long ball Tuesday, giving up four homers that accounted for all five runs against him. He has allowed multiple homers just three times all season, and he had given up a total of four long balls across his previous seven starts combined. Consider this outing an anomaly for now -- Wrobleski's performance this season has earned him the benefit of the doubt. He's at a 2.88 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 87:21 K:BB through 112.2 innings over 18 games (17 starts). The southpaw is tentatively projected for a home start versus the Red Sox over the weekend.
