Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Falters late in no-decision
Gallen did not factor into the decision in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Phillies, allowing three runs on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts over five innings.
Gallen opened with five scoreless frames before allowing five straight hits and three runs without recording an out in the sixth. It was a tough finish to an otherwise solid outing, though he generated just four swinging strikes on 84 pitches and yielded 15 hard-hit balls. The 30-year-old owns a 3.60 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB across 20 innings in the early going and lines up for a home matchup against the Blue Jays next weekend.

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Limits Mets in no-decision
Gallen did not factor into the decision Tuesday against the Mets, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and four walks while striking out five over five innings.
Gallen ran into quick trouble, allowing three consecutive singles to open the game, but he managed to limit the damage to just one run on a sacrifice fly. The right-hander settled in nicely after the rocky start, allowing only two hits over his final four innings while pitching effectively through traffic. Though he wasn't especially efficient, issuing four walks and needing 95 pitches (54 strikes) to get through five innings, he kept Arizona in position to win before the bullpen let the lead slip away. Gallen now holds a 3.00 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 9:6 K:BB through his first three outings of the season.

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Silences Tigers in first win
Gallen (1-1) notched the win Wednesday against the Tigers, allowing no runs on four hits and no walks in six innings. He struck out two.
Two of the hits allowed went for extra bases, but Gallen was still able to keep Detroit out of the scoring column Wednesday. Although right-hander wasn't dominant, he tossed 58 of his 88 pitches for strikes and bounced back in a big way after allowing four runs in four innings during his season debut. Gallen is set for a tough matchup on paper versus the Mets in his next scheduled start, though New York has stumbled out of the gates with .648 OPS as a team through six games.

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Fades in season-opening loss
Gallen (0-1) took the loss against the Dodgers on Thursday, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out two batters over four-plus innings.
Gallen looked strong through four frames, holding Los Angeles scoreless while allowing just two baserunners. However, things unraveled for him in the fifth, as he gave up a pair of singles followed by an Andy Pages homer to squander a 2-0 lead. Gallen remained in the game after the long ball, but he gave up another single followed by a walk and was subsequently pulled. Overall, he threw 47 of 76 pitches for strikes and got nine whiffs. It's an underwhelming start to the season for Gallen, who posted a career-worst 4.83 ERA in 33 starts last year.

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Makes penultimate spring start
Gallen allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out one over 2.2 innings in Saturday's spring start against the Giants. He also hit a batter.
Gallen made his third Cactus League start and has one more to go before taking the ball Opening Day. He was pulled with two outs in the third inning and re-entered to begin the fourth but was gone for good after Daniel Susac jumped on a changeup left up in the zone for a home run. The right-hander told Jack Sommers of SI.com that he was working on his sinker and trying to improve the consistency of his changeup. Instead of tinkering with his arsenal in his final spring start, Gallen plans to approach it as he would a regular-season game, per Jose M. Romero of the Arizona Republic.

Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Set for Opening Day assignment
The Diamondbacks named Gallen as their starter for Opening Day against the Dodgers on March 26.
Merrill Kelly had previously been tapped to start Opening Day for Arizona, but he will not be ready at that point as he recovers from a back injury. As a result, Gallen -- who re-signed with the Diamondbacks at the start of spring training -- will be making his fourth consecutive Opening Day start. Gallen had a disappointing 2025 campaign, finishing with a 4.83 ERA and 175:66 K:BB over 192 innings.
