Payamps recorded the save in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Pirates, striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning. The Pirates made things interesting in the ninth, getting the tying and go-ahead runs on base on a pair of Milwaukee errors. However, Payamps got Jared Triolo to fly out before striking out Andrew McCutchen to seal the 3-2 victory, notching his fourth save of the year. The 30-year-old Payamps has three saves in his last four outings as he lowered his ERA to 3.72 with a 0.62 WHIP and 9:1 K:BB through 9.2 innings. Payamps appears to be the current favorite for saves but is hardly locked in as Milwaukee's closer, with Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill also in the mix.... See More ... See Less

Brewers' Joel Payamps: Notches third save
Payamps struck out one in a perfect ninth inning to earn the save in Sunday's 2-0 win at St. Louis. Payamps rebounded from blowing a save in the series opener by retiring the side in order Sunday on just nine pitches. The right-hander allowed only an inherited runner to score in that outing Friday and has been scored upon in just one of his 10 appearances this season -- though he surrendered four runs in that one outing. Payamps appears to be the current favorite of manager Pat Murphy for the ninth inning, but there's already been significant shifts in usage throughout the first few weeks of the campaign with four different relievers collecting saves. Abner Uribe and Trevor Megill also remain in the mix for now.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Joel Payamps: Blows save, earns win
Payamps (1-1) recorded one out and walked one batter Friday. He earned a win over the Cardinals after blowing a save chance. Payamps entered the ninth inning with two runners on in a 1-0 game. After plunking Ivan Herrera to load the bases, he walked Brendan Donovan to let the tying run score. The Brewers would go on to win in the 10th inning, giving Payamps his first win of 2024. He's sporting a 4.70 ERA with a 6:1 K:BB through 7.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Joel Payamps: Picks up first save
Payamps earned the save in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Mets, retiring all three batters he faced with one strikeout in the ninth inning. The 28-year-old notched a hold with a scoreless eighth inning Opening Day while Abner Uribe secured a save, but Uribe wasn't used Sunday after throwing the previous two days. Uribe already has two saves this season and appears to be manager Pat Murphy's first option for the ninth inning, but Payamps remains firmly in the mix for now, though it is too early to declare this closing situation settled.... Brewers' Joel Payamps: Avoids arbitration
Payamps agreed to a one-year deal with the Brewers on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Payamps, a 29-year-old righty, emerged as the Brewers' top setup man for stretches of last season. He logged a 2.55 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 77 strikeouts in 70.2 innings while also chipping in seven wins and three saves.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Joel Payamps: Takes second loss

He still sports an impressive 2.01 ERA with a 0.89 WHIP and 57:8 K:BB across 49.1 innings this season while serving as Milwaukee's primary set-up option ahead of Devin Williams.... See More ... The 29-year-old picked up his second save of the season Saturday, as manager Craig Counsell opted to stay away from closer Devin Williams after his busy finish to June. Payamps has earned his way into the setup job for the Brewers and has 15 holds with a 2.11 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 42:8 K:BB over 38.1 innings, and he hasn't given up an earned run in his past eight outings.... Brewers' Joel Payamps: Jumps into setup role
Payamps tossed a scoreless eighth inning and picked up a hold in Tuesday's 7-5 victory over the Diamondbacks. Payamps worked the eighth inning just once all season prior to June 13, but with Peter Strzelecki going through a rough patch and Matt Bush (shoulder) on the injured list, manager Craig Counsell used Payamps in the setup spot that night and twice since. Payamps has allowed five runners to reach base over the three frames he has worked in front of closer Devin Williams, but he also kept the opponent off the scoreboard all three times. As such, expect Payamps to get the ball next time the Brewers need to protect a tight lead in the eighth.... See More ... See Less -

The Brewers were forced to extend their bullpen after starter Wade Miley (lat) left the game in the second inning, and Payamps was summoned in the fifth frame for the first time all season. He kept the opponent off the scoreboard, and when the Brewers took the lead in the top of the sixth, Payamps was put in position to pick up his second win of the season. He has been about as effective as can be of late, posting a 1.50 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 16:1 K:BB in 12 innings over his last 10 appearances.... See More ... See Less -

Payamps (3-5) took the loss against the Rangers on Tuesday, allowing a game-winning solo home run over one-third of an inning. Payamps (2-2) allowed two runs on two hits and struck out two over 1.1 innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Tigers. Payamps pitched the eighth inning and stayed in the contest, giving him a chance at a two-inning save. That backfired when he allowed back-to-back solo shots to Victor Reyes and Riley Greene, the latter being a walkoff homer. It was a rude welcome back for Payamps after he spent nearly three weeks on the COVID-19 injured list. The 28-year-old has a 2.96 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 21:11 K:BB through 27.1 innings this year, pitching mainly in a low-leverage role.
