Payamps (4-2) took the loss in Sunday's 8-6 loss against Atlanta. He allowed two runs on two hits while striking out two over an inning. Payamps saw his 19-inning scoreless streak end on Matt Olson's two-run homer in the eighth inning Sunday, tagging the right-hander with his second loss of the year. Payamps had pitched to a pristine 0.58 WHIP during his 18-game streak, striking out 22 in that span. He still sports an impressive 2.01 ERA with a 0.89 WHIP and 57:8 K:BB across 49.1 innings this season while serving as Milwaukee's primary set-up option ahead of Devin Williams.... See More ... Brewers' Joel Payamps: Picks up fourth win
Payamps tossed a scoreless eighth inning and picked up his fourth win of the season in Saturday's 4-3 victory over Atlanta. Payamps entered Saturday's contest with the two teams knotted on the scoreboard, and he wound up with the win after the Brewers plated a run in the bottom of the eighth and prevented Atlanta from doing any further scoring. Payamps has been on a major roll of late, tossing 15 straight scoreless appearances and posting a 0.50 WHIP and 21:2 K:BB in 16.0 innings over that span. He is locked into the setup spot in front of closer Devin Williams.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Joel Payamps: Secures second save
Payamps had one strikeout and didn't allow a baserunner during a scoreless ninth inning to earn the save Saturday against the Pirates. The 29-year-old picked up his second save of the season Saturday, as manager Craig Counsell opted to stay away from closer Devin Williams after his busy finish to June. Payamps has earned his way into the setup job for the Brewers and has 15 holds with a 2.11 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 42:8 K:BB over 38.1 innings, and he hasn't given up an earned run in his past eight outings.... Brewers' Joel Payamps: Jumps into setup role
Payamps tossed a scoreless eighth inning and picked up a hold in Tuesday's 7-5 victory over the Diamondbacks. Payamps worked the eighth inning just once all season prior to June 13, but with Peter Strzelecki going through a rough patch and Matt Bush (shoulder) on the injured list, manager Craig Counsell used Payamps in the setup spot that night and twice since. Payamps has allowed five runners to reach base over the three frames he has worked in front of closer Devin Williams, but he also kept the opponent off the scoreboard all three times. As such, expect Payamps to get the ball next time the Brewers need to protect a tight lead in the eighth.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Joel Payamps: Picks up second win
Payamps tossed 1.2 scoreless innings of relief and picked up the win in Tuesday's victory over the Cardinals. He allowed two hits and posted a 4:1 K:BB in the outing. The Brewers were forced to extend their bullpen after starter Wade Miley (lat) left the game in the second inning, and Payamps was summoned in the fifth frame for the first time all season. He kept the opponent off the scoreboard, and when the Brewers took the lead in the top of the sixth, Payamps was put in position to pick up his second win of the season. He has been about as effective as can be of late, posting a 1.50 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 16:1 K:BB in 12 innings over his last 10 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Joel Payamps: Secures first career save
Payamps earned a save against the Padres on Thursday, allowing one hit and striking out one batter in a scoreless 10th inning. Milwaukee closer Devin Williams was deployed to keep a 3-3 tie intact in the bottom of the ninth inning, which he did successfully. After the Brewers took the lead in the top of the 10th, manager Craig Counsell turned to Payamps to close things out. The right-hander came through in the clutch situation, allowing a two-out infield single but nothing else in compiling a scoreless frame and notching his first career save. Despite the positive outcome, Williams is the clear closer for the Brewers, and Payamps isn't likely to see many (if any) additional save chances moving forward.... See More ... See Less -
Brewers' Joel Payamps: Breaks camp with Brewers
Payamps, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, secured a spot on the Brewers' Opening Day roster. Payamps was not sharp during the spring, allowing five earned runs over 5.1 innings, but he is out of options and the Brewers want to take a longer look at him after acquiring him from the A's over the offseason. He figures to open in a low-leverage role.... See More ... See Less -

He figures to handle low-leverage work in the Brewers' bullpen in 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Joel Payamps: Lands on IL
Payamps was placed on the 15-day injured list with a strained lumbar muscle Friday. Payamps had inconsistent results in September, posting a 5.19 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 8.2 innings over eight appearances. Although he tossed a scoreless inning Tuesday against the Mariners, he's apparently dealing with a back issue that will force him to miss the remainder of the regular season. The right-hander made a career-high 41 relief appearances between Kansas City and Oakland this year and generated a 3.23 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 55.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Athletics' Joel Payamps: Charged with fifth loss Tuesday
Payamps (3-5) took the loss against the Rangers on Tuesday, allowing a game-winning solo home run over one-third of an inning. Payamps' blink-and-you-missed-it ninth-inning appearance began with a Marcus Semien pop fly but quickly ended when he served up a 395-foot solo shot to Mark Mathias to snap a 7-7 tie and send the Rangers home winners. Payamps' stumble notwithstanding, the right-hander has been mostly reliable since joining the Athletics off waivers Aug. 20, posting a 2.31 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and two holds across 10 appearances.... Athletics' Joel Payamps: Takes fourth loss Tuesday
Payamps (3-4) was charged with a loss against Atlanta on Tuesday, allowing one earned run on two hits over one inning. Payamps didn't exactly come into the ideal scenario when entering in the game in the fifth inning, as he inherited a two-on, two-out jam from starter Cole Irvin. Payamps surrendered a two-run single to the first batter he faced, Marcell Ozuna, before getting Robbie Grossman on an inning-ending flyout. Payamps had generated six scoreless appearances in the seven outings prior to Tuesday's stumble, and he still sports a 3.00 ERA across 51 innings over 36 appearances between Kansas City and Oakland this season.... Payamps labored some, needing a total of 39 pitches to record his six outs.
