    Ortiz (concussion) was optioned into minor-league camp Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Ortiz reached Triple-A for the first time last season and slashed an impressive .320/.383/.534 over 115 plate appearances. He will almost certainly return to Triple-A Norfolk to begin the year, and he could be in line for a major-league debut if he continues to post similar numbers to last season.

  • Orioles' Joey Ortiz: Enters concussion protocol

    Oritz has been in the concussion protocol over the last few days after he was hit in the head by a batted ball, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Ortiz won't be able to return until he is not experiencing concussion symptoms. The shortstop prospect was added to the Orioles' 40-man roster in November after closing the season with a .320/.383/.534 slash line across 26 games with Triple-A Norfolk. He's likely to see much of his playing time at that level in 2023, though he could earn a midseason call-up to the majors if he plays well.

  • Orioles' Joseph Ortiz: Moves up to Triple-A

    Ortiz was promoted to Triple-A Norfolk on Monday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. Ortiz earned his promotion to Triple-A after he batted .380 sith 11 home runs, 41 RBI, 40 runs and a stolen base over 137 at-bats in 34 games with Double-A Bowie since the All-Star break. The 24-year-old is now one step closer to making his big-league debut after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB Draft.

  • Orioles' Joseph Ortiz: Big week for Bowie

    Ortiz was named the Eastern League Player of the Week on Monday. Ortiz earned the honors with an impressive week against Double-A Altoona. He his .519 (14-for-27) with three home runs, four doubles, 11 RBI and nine runs scored in six contests. The shortstop prospect has put together an alright campaign to date, slashing .258/.314/.416 with nine homers, 48 RBI, 43 runs scored and a stolen base through 87 games.
