Padres' Robert Suarez: Locks down save Tuesday
Suarez struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 1-0 win over the Diamondbacks.
Suarez threw just 11 of 20 pitches for strikes, but it was good enough to keep a clean line. This was his third straight scoreless outing, and he's allowed just one hit while adding four strikeouts over three innings in that span. He retook sole possession of the major-league lead in saves with his 26th of the year, and he's added a 3.72 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 41:12 K:BB over 38.2 innings.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Earns 25th save
Suarez struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 4-1 win over the Rangers.
Suarez's outing was drama-free, a welcome sight after he had allowed three runs over his last 2.1 innings, which resulted in one blown save. He's been a little shaky since mid-June, but it hasn't cost him his closer role despite the talent present in the Padres' bullpen. Suarez is 25-for-28 in save chances while adding a 3.82 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 40:12 K:BB across 37.2 innings this season.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Notches 24th save
Suarez recorded his 24th save of the season in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Phillies, allowing one run on three hits and striking out one in the ninth inning.
The Padres took a three-run lead into the ninth, giving Suarez the cushion to survive a few singles. The 34-year-old closer has hit a rough patch since mid-June, getting tagged for runs in five of his last eight appearances while stumbling to a 16.89 ERA, 3.56 WHIP and 5:4 K:BB over his last 5.1 innings, but he's blown only one of four save chances during that swoon. Jeremiah Estrada, Yuki Matsui and Adrian Morejon have all picked up saves as well since June 19, and Jason Adam would also likely be a factor in the ninth if manager Mike Shildt elects to shift Suarez into a lower-leverage role until he rights the ship.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Melts down in blown save
Suarez (2-4) blew the save and took the loss in Sunday's 3-2 game at Cincinnati. He allowed two runs on four hits and one walk in one-third of an inning.
Things went awry off the bat for Suarez when Elly De La Cruz opened the ninth with an infield single. After Spencer Steer drove De La Cruz home on a single to knot the contest at 2-2, Will Benson eventually walked off the Padres by roping a single to right field with the bases loaded. This snaps a stretch of eight consecutive converted saves for Suarez that he achieved over 15 appearances. Across 34.2 total frames, Suarez has pitched to a 3.89 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 36:12 K:BB while going 23-for-26 on save chances.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Converts 23rd save
Suarez earned the save in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Reds, allowing two walks while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.
Suarez returned from a two-game suspension and was immediately thrust into a save situation, working around two walks to secure the win. The 34-year-old has now delivered three straight scoreless outings and has converted all five of his save chances in June. He leads the majors with 23 saves, accompanied by a 3.41 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 36:11 K:BB across 34.1 innings this season.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Suspension reduced to two games
Suarez's suspension for hitting Shohei Ohtani with a pitch in last Thursday's 5-3 win over the Dodgers has been reduced to two games, and he will begin serving the suspension Wednesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Suarez will be eligible to pitch again Saturday in Cincinnati. If a save opportunity arises for the Padres over the next two games, they could turn to Jason Adam, Jeremiah Estrada or Adrian Morejon.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Earns 22nd save
Suarez struck out one in a perfect inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Nationals.
Suarez has posted back-to-back scoreless outings after a stretch of three appearances in which he allowed seven runs over one inning. The 34-year-old also picked up his 22nd save of the year, though it was his first since June 8 versus the Brewers, in part due to his recent poor performance. He's at a 3.51 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 34:9 K:BB over 33.1 innings. Suarez is currently appealing a three-game suspension stemming from his plunking of Shohei Ohtani last week -- Suarez remains eligible to pitch while the appeal is active, but it's possible he'll drop it if he faces a heavy workload in the near future.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Appealing three-game suspension
Suarez was issued a three-game suspension from Major League Baseball on Friday, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.
Suarez was ejected from Thursday's game against the Dodgers after hitting Shohei Ohtani with a pitch, and the 34-year-old closer will now receive a three-game ban on top of it. Suarez is appealing the suspension, so he will remain on the Padres' active roster until a verdict is reached.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Crumbles in non-save situation
Suarez (1-2) allowed five runs on five hits and struck out one over one-third of an inning to take the loss Saturday versus the Diamondbacks.
Suarez was called upon to protect a four-run lead in the ninth inning, but he couldn't get the job done. He gave up three straight singles, then struck out Corbin Carroll before giving up an RBI single to Ketel Marte and a game-tying three-run triple to Geraldo Perdomo. Adrian Morejon allowed an inherited runner to score, and that was charged to Suarez, sending him to his first loss since his other five-run implosion of the year back on May 12 versus the Angels. Those account for two of the four appearances in which Suarez has been scored on this season. This outing inflated his ERA from 1.78 to 3.23. but he still has a sparkling 0.88 WHIP and 33:8 K:BB across 30.2 innings. He also has 21 saves in 23 chances, and as long as this kind of performance doesn't become more regular, Suarez's status as the Padres' closer is safe.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Up to 21 saves
Suarez earned the save in Sunday's 1-0 win over the Brewers, allowing one hit while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning.
Suarez extended his league-leading save total to 21, as he worked around a two-out single to close out the Padres' shutout victory. Suarez hasn't allowed an earned run in his last 10 appearances (11.1 innings), allowing seven hits while striking out 12 in that span. He's lowered his ERA to 1.84 with a 0.75 WHIP and 31:8 K:BB across 29.1 innings this season.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Slams door for MLB-high 20th save
Suarez picked up the save in Friday's 2-0 victory over Milwaukee, striking out one during a clean ninth inning.
Suarez turned in his ninth scoreless outing in a row after he yielded five runs the last time he allowed an earned run altogether back on May 12. The 34-year-old right-hander has been stellar overall in 2025, notching a 1.91 ERA, 0.74 WHIP and 30:8 K:BB over 28.1 innings. Suarez has successfully converted 20 of his 22 save chances, and he also leads the major leagues in saves so far.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Locks down 19th save
Suarez struck out two in a perfect inning to earn the save in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Pirates.
Suarez's scoreless streak is up to 5.1 innings, a span in which he's struck out six while allowing just three hits. Outside of a five-run disaster May 12 versus the Angels, Suarez has been nearly untouchable this season. He's maintained a 2.13 ERA, 0.79 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB while converting 19 of 21 save chances over 25.1 innings. He's already over halfway to surpassing his total of 36 saves from the 2024 regular season.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Secures league-leading 18th save
Suarez struck out three over 1.1 perfect innings Friday to record his 18th save of the season in a 3-2 win over the Pirates.
The right-hander breezed through Pittsburgh's 5-6-7-8 hitters as he moved back into the MLB lead in saves, one ahead of Seattle's Andres Munoz. Suarez has been tagged for earned runs only once in his last 13 appearances, and through 24.1 innings on the season he's produced a 2.22 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 28:6 K:BB while converting 18 of his 20 save chances.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Collects 17th save
Suarez earned the save in Sunday's 5-3 win at Atlanta, pitching a clean inning with no strikeouts.
The right-handed closer succinctly wrapped the game on nine pitches, seven of which were strikes, to tally his NL-leading 17th save. After allowing five runs in a blown save May 14, Suarez has gotten back on track with four consecutive outings without allowing an earned run. Across 22 total innings, the 34-year-old has pitched to a 2.45 ERA, 0.86 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB while going 16-for-18 on save opportunities.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Grabs 16th save
Suarez earned the save in Friday's 2-1 win over Atlanta after allowing two hits without recording a walk or strikeout in a scoreless ninth inning.
Suarez blew his last two save opportunities, but he got the call to come in for the ninth inning to protect the Padres' one-run lead. He was able to maneuver past two singles -- thanks in large part to a baserunning blunder by Eli White -- to come away with the save after tossing 19 pitches (13 strikes). Suarez has a 2.57 ERA, 0.90 WHIP and 22:8 K:BB across 21 innings this season, and his 16 saves is second most in the majors behind Andres Munoz (17).

Padres' Robert Suarez: Second straight blown save
Suarez blew his second straight save opportunity Thursday, surrendering one unearned run and two hits while striking out one in a 7-6 extra-innings loss to the Blue Jays.
It's the second blown save in a row for Suarez, though the run he allowed was unearned since it was the automatic runner that scored in the 10th inning. After picking up another strikeout Thursday, Suarez has punched out 22 batters in 20 innings and has a 2.70 ERA and 0.85 WHIP. Even after Thursday's blown save, the right-hander is 15-for-17 closing ball games, which gives him second most saves in MLB.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Rare implosion in first blown save
Suarez (0-1) allowed five runs on a hit and four walks while striking out one over one-third of an inning, taking the loss and a blown save in Monday's 9-5 loss to the Angels.
Suarez had been one of the most dominant closers in the majors prior to this outing. He threw just 16 of 33 pitches for strikes in the laborious outing, which saw him strike out the leadoff batter before allowing a hit and four straight walks. That left the bases loaded, and Alek Jacob gave up a grand slam to Taylor Ward to complete the Padres' bullpen collapse. Even with a five-run meltdown on his line, Suarez still has a 3.00 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 19:8 K:BB over 18 innings this season. He's also 15-for-16 in save chances. His status as San Diego's closer won't be called into question after just one bad outing.

Padres' Robert Suarez: Puts out fire for 15th save
Suarez picked up the save in Friday's 13-9 win over Colorado after recording the final two outs of the game. He did not record a strikeout or a walk.
After falling into a 12-1 deficit earlier in the contest, the Rockies began to make things interesting by scoring seven runs in the final two innings. That prompted Padres manager Mike Shildt to call upon his closer to put out the fire, and Suarez threw three pitches before getting Sean Bouchard to ground into a game-ending double play. The hard-throwing right-hander collected his MLB-leading 15th save Friday, and he now boasts a 0.51 ERA, 0.57 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB without a blown save over 17.2 innings.
