Padres' Jackson Merrill: Three hits in return from illness
Merrill (illness) went 3-for-4 with an RBI triple and two runs scored in Monday's 9-5 loss to the Angels.
Merrill missed one back while under the weather, but it shouldn't be an issue moving forward. In his return to the lineup, he delivered his fifth straight multi-hit effort since a month-long absence with a hamstring injury. The last three of those games have featured three or more hits each. In other words, he hasn't lost any momentum after a blistering start to the season prior to his stay on the injured list. He's batting .467 with four home runs, 17 RBI, 14 runs scored, four doubles, one triple and a stolen base across 65 plate appearances.

Padres' Jackson Merrill: Scratched due to ailment
The Padres scratched Merrill from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies due to an illness, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Tyler Wade will enter the lineup in center field after Merrill had started four straight games following his return from the injured list Tuesday. The 22-year-old has avoided any setbacks with the strained right hamstring that kept him on the shelf for a month, but he'll have to shake off this illness ahead of the Padres' series opener Monday against the Angels.

The scorching stretch has pushed Merrill's season slash line to an absurd .446/.475/.732 through 61 plate appearances.

Padres' Jackson Merrill: Activated Tuesday
The Padres reinstated Merrill (hamstring) from the injured list Tuesday.
After spending nearly a month on the injured list due to a strained right hamstring, Merrill will rejoin the active roster and reclaim his role as San Diego's everyday center fielder. The 22-year-old went 2-for-6 with a walk and two runs scored during his two-game rehab assignment at Double-A San Antonio, and he'd been slashing .378/.415/.676 in the majors before getting injured. Padres' Jackson Merrill: Expected back in action Tuesday
Merrill (hamstring) has joined the Padres in New York for their series against the Yankees and is likely to be activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
The expectation had been that Merrill would be activated Monday. While he's met up with the Padres after traveling to New York following his rehab assignment with Double-A San Antonio over the weekend, rainy conditions are expected in The Bronx on Monday night, so the team will wait an extra day to reinsert him into the lineup. Merrill has been shelved since early April with a right hamstring strain.

Padres' Jackson Merrill: Trending toward Monday return
Merrill (hamstring) appears on track to return from the 10-day injured list Monday in the Padres' series opener versus the Yankees in New York, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Merrill hasn't played since April 6 while recovering from a right hamstring strain, but he recently resumed taking live at-bats at the Padres' spring facility in Arizona and has been cleared to begin a rehab assignment with Double-A San Antonio on Saturday, per MLB.com. It's unclear if Merrill is scheduled to play for San Antonio both Saturday and Sunday or just Saturday, but assuming he makes it through the weekend without any setbacks, he'll join the Padres as their three-city road trip moves to New York. Merrill will supplant Tyler Wade as the Friars' primary center fielder once he's officially activated.

Padres' Jackson Merrill: Closing in on return
Merrill (hamstring) could be activated from the 10-day injured list during the Padres' upcoming road trip that begins Friday in Pittsburgh, Marty Caswell of TheSportingTribune.com reports.
Merrill recently began taking live at-bats at San Diego's spring complex in Arizona, and manager Mike Shildt described him as being "towards the finish line" of his rehab, per MLB.com. Though Merrill may not be ready to play this weekend during the three-game series in Pittsburgh, a return next week in the Padres' three-game series in New York against the Yankees or during the three-game series in Colorado could be in the cards, depending on how his strained right hamstring responds during workouts.

Padres' Jackson Merrill: May miss more than another week
Padres manager Mike Shildt said Friday that it would be "a little aggressive" for Merrill to be ready to return to action at the start of San Diego's next homestand, which begins April 25, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Merrill has already missed the minimum amount of required time after being placed on the 10-day injured list April 8. However, the rising star appears set to be out for at least another week given his manager's comments. Shildt added that Merrill will need to "progress to a good consistent jog" before he is able to take the next step in his recovery and indicated that the team isn't yet putting a timeline on the outfielder's return. Brandon Lockridge initially replaced Merrill in center field but has since landed on the IL with a hamstring injury of his own, so Tyler Wade has started three of the Padres' past four games in center.

Padres' Jackson Merrill: Held out of lineup again
Merill (hamstring) is not in the Padres' lineup against the Athletics on Tuesday.
Merill will miss his second straight game as he continues tending to his hamstring. This comes as an expected precaution, but if he misses any more games it would exceed the original timeline for his absence. Like Monday, Brandon Lockridge has the start in center field.

Padres' Jackson Merrill: Headed to injured list
The Padres placed Merrill on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a right hamstring strain.
Merrill's hamstring has kept him out of the lineup since Monday, and he hasn't been recovering as quickly as the team would like. In an effort to prioritize his long-term health, the Padres will now send the young outfielder to the injured list to give him ample time to recover and ensure his hamstring doesn't remain an issue for the rest of the season. Oscar Gonzalez was recalled from Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move.

Padres' Jackson Merrill: Nursing hamstring issue
Merrill is being held out of Monday's starting lineup against the Athletics due to a hamstring injury, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.
Acee notes that Merrill has been playing through a minor hamstring issue for a few games, and the team has ultimately elected to give him a day or two off as a precaution. Brandon Lockridge is getting the start in center field Monday and would likely be in line for another chance Tuesday if Merrill misses more time.
