  • Braves' Max Fried: Shifts to 60-day IL

Atlanta transferred Fried (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver pickup Luke Williams. Fried is throwing again as he works his way back from a left forearm strain, but it's going to take several weeks for him to complete the ramp-up process. As a result of his move to the 60-day IL, Fried won't be eligible for activation until early July.

  • Braves' Max Fried: Begins throwing program

Fried (forearm) played catch on flat ground Thursday, Mark Bowman of reports.

Fried is basically going to have to build up from scratch after being shut down for more than two weeks with a left forearm strain, though at least that process has now begun. The initial expectation was that Fried would miss a couple of months, but he might be ready to return sometime before the end of June if all goes well with this throwing progression. He landed on the injured list May 9, having logged a brilliant 2.08 ERA and 25:6 K:BB through 26 innings (five starts) to open the 2023 campaign.

  • Braves' Max Fried: Close to resuming throwing

Fried (forearm) is close to resuming throwing, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

O'Brien adds of Fried that "it seems realistic to expect him back sometime around the All-Star break," although that's certainly a rough timetable for now. The left-hander landed on the injured list two weeks ago with a strained left forearm and recently was cleared to resume lifting weights. He'll need to go through a full throwing progression and undoubtedly will require a rehab assignment before rejoining Atlanta's rotation.

  • Braves' Max Fried: Begins lifting weights

Fried (forearm) has been able to lift weights, but there's been no sign he's close to resuming throwing, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Fried hit the injured list in early May with a strained left forearm, and while he's yet to be placed on the 60-day injured list, initial reports suggested he'd miss at least two months. It's a positive to see him beginning to work his way back, but manager Brian Snitker didn't know when the lefty was set to be re-evaluated, so it doesn't appear as though he's about to be cleared to throw in the immediate term.

  • Braves' Max Fried: Out at least two months

Fried (forearm) is expected to be sidelined for at least two months, Mark Bowman of reports.

Fried landed on the injured list Tuesday with a strained left forearm, and Bowman's report suggests that Atlanta is bracing for a long-term absence for its ace. It's not clear how long exactly the southpaw will be shut down, but he'll have to be built back up after that period before going out on a rehab assignment. A two-month timetable would put Fried back in action just ahead of the All-Star break in July.

  • Braves' Max Fried: Lands on IL with forearm strain

Atlanta placed Fried on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a strained left forearm.

Atlanta had been cagey about whether Fried would be making his next start and now we know what he's been dealing with. The move is retroactive to Saturday, which means Fried will be eligible to return May 21. He's not going to be ready by then, though, with Mark Bowman of saying "this won't be a short-term IL." Jared Shuster projects as the rotation replacement for Fried on Wednesday versus the Red Sox.
