Carter-Williams' $3.05 million team option for the 2023-24 season was declined by the Magic on Thursday. Carter-Williams missed the start of the 2022-23 season due to an ankle injury and was waived by the Magic in early February. While he rejoined the team later in the month, he didn't play much of a role for the team following his return, so it's unsurprising to see him become a free agent. It's unclear what kind of interest he may draw ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.... See More ... See Less

Magic's Michael Carter-Williams: Set to rejoin Orlando
Carter-Williams agreed Sunday with the Magic on a two-year contract, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. The veteran guard spent time with the Magic in each of the past three seasons, though he didn't see any action in 2021-22 while he was recovering from left ankle surgery prior to being waived last February. Presumably healthy again, Carter-Williams will link back up with the Magic and offer depth at point guard while also having the ability to defend wings. Carter-Williams averaged 8.8 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 25.8 minutes per game across 31 appearances (25 starts) for the Magic in his last healthy season in 2020-21, but he's unlikely to approach that level of playing time over the final couple months of the current campaign.... The Magic have provided few updates regarding where Carter-Williams stands in his recovery from the surgery he underwent in late August to remove a bone fragment and address ligament damage in his left ankle. Markelle Fultz (knee) appears further along in his recovery from a long-term injury than both Carter-Williams and E'Twaun Moore (knee), so neither of the latter two players may have spots in head coach Jamahl Mosley's rotation once they are ultimately cleared....
