Summary

Trevor Etienne stands out as an immediate contributor as a change-of-pace back and kick returner thanks to his elusiveness, hands and underrated power. There’s a speed element to his game as well, but it’s not considered among his best traits, nor is his size to his advantage -- both primary reasons why he has an uphill battle to become a team’s complete feature back on Sundays. In fact, he was rarely given a chance to be a workhorse, failing to total 1,000 yards or exceed 154 touches in each of three seasons at two different programs

About
  • Younger brother of 2021 first-round running back Travis Etienne Jr.
  • 2022 (at Florida): SEC All-Freshman Team
Strengths
  • Good short-area burst and acceleration: Whether seeing a lane created by his O-line or cutting away from a defender into space, Etienne takes advantage of creases and gaps quickly, giving him a chance to hurriedly get to the second and third levels of a defense.
  • Excellent hands: Etienne was a QB’s best friend on check-downs, flares and other short-area targets thanks to his unique ability to reliably catch the ball (even if off-target) and swivel into action in one swift motion. He had one drop in three seasons.
  • Tough, especially for his size: Etienne had a good motor and fought hard for yards once contacted. Consistently kept his legs moving, at times helping him shed tackles. He earned seven carries inside the 3-yard line at Georgia after getting just six such carries in two seasons at Florida. Etienne also played through a rib injury late last season.
Weaknesses
  • Speed was just OK: Just four of Etienne’s 122 runs last season went for 20-plus yards, and only three more went between 15 and 19 yards. He’s elusive for sure, but his top-end speed isn’t a threat.
  • Wasn’t a consistent yards creator: Etienne tended to rush well when his offensive line blocked well and struggled when his offensive line struggled. Last year he was middle of the pack among FBS qualifying RBs in yards after contact (3.43, weighted heavily by home game vs. Tennessee Tech) and avoided tackle rate (23%). When Etienne did create, it usually involved his physicality, not his speed.
  • Pass protection is a definite work in progress: Etienne had decent opportunities to pass protect (28 snaps in 2024, 85 in three-year career) but was inconsistent. More often than not would misdiagnose the defense and block the wrong guy.
Combine Data
  • 40-yard dash: 4.42 seconds
  • Bench press: 15 reps
  • Vertical jump: 35 inches
  • Broad jump: 10 feet, 4 inches
