Remember earlier this month when Texas A&M quarterback Trevor Knight injured his shoulder during the first half of the Aggies game against Mississippi State, and Kevin Sumlin said Knight would miss the rest of the season, though it was possible he could return for a bowl game?
Yeah, well, about that initial diagnosis, it might have been a bit off.
According to a report from 247Sports, Knight might suit up this week. As in Thursday night against LSU.
According to multiple sources, Knight will start the No. 22 Aggies' final regular season game against LSU on Thursday evening.
Earlier in the week, the senior graduate transfer stated that he would like to play if he was cleared by doctors to do so. Apparently, that was what happened.
To say this comes as quite the surprise would be an understatement. When it comes to discussing injuries publicly, Kevin Sumlin is like a lot of coaches in that he says as little as possible. So when he says Knight is going to miss the rest of the regular season, you figure it's pretty serious.
Of course, who knows what to think about quarterbacks and injuries anymore? Michigan's Wilton Speight reportedly broke his collarbone a couple weeks ago, and now there's a possibility he could play against Ohio State on Saturday.
Quarterbacks are just healing at an alarming rate these days.
Which would be good news for Texas A&M. Since losing Knight, the Aggies offense under Jake Hubenak has struggled a bit. It managed 23 points against UTSA last week, and while the Roadrunners aren't merely some speed-bump squad, you would still expect the Aggies to be able to do more. So if Knight can play, that would definitely give the Aggies a better chance to take down LSU on Thursday night.
You just hope that if Knight does end up playing, he's not taking too large a risk in doing so.
