Johnny Manziel and Devonte Fields get to add FWAA Freshman All-America to their list of 2012 accolades. (US Presswire)

The Football Writers Association of America announced its 2012 Freshman All-America Team on Monday, highlighting some of the best first-year contributors across the nation.

Players from all 11 FBS conferences and Notre Dame are represented on the 30-man roster, which is highlighted by Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel. The Texas A&M quarterback is joined by 15 other redshirt freshmen and 14 true freshmen, including TCU defensive end Devonte Fields. Fields also earned First Team All-Big 12 honors after recording 10 sacks and leading the league with 18.5 tackles for loss.

State" data-canon="Ohio Bobcats" data-type="SPORTS_OBJECT_TEAM" id="shortcode0"> coach Urban Meyer got the nod as the Freshman Team's "coach." While Meyer is no freshman to college coaching, this was his first season since his hiatus, and the Buckeyes did notch a perfect 12-0 record. I suppose a less-than-conventional freshman coach is appropriate in this situation.
