The injury hits keep coming for Arkansas.
Senior defensive end Tenarius Wright, who ranks fifth on the team with 28 tackles, will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery, coach John L. Smith said Wednesday.
“He had to make a decision on what to do and he’s decided he’s going to go get it fixed,” Smith said.
Wright did not play against Auburn and had an MRI on Monday. He’s the fourth Razorback to be lost for the season to injury. On Monday, linebacker Alonzo Highsmith, the team’s leading tackler, had season-ending foot surgery for an injury he suffered against the Tigers.
“It’s been one of those years,” Smith said. “You can’t explain it.”
Arkansas (2-4, 1-2 SEC), which hosts Kentucky (1-5, 0-3) on Saturday, got eight sacks and played its best defensive game in the 24-7 win at Auburn. Whether that performance reflected Arkansas’ improvement or Auburn’s ineptitude remains to be seen.
In other injury news, tight end Chris Gragg (bone bruise) probably is another week away from playing. But corner Tevin Mitchel (concussion) has returned to practice and is expected to play Saturday.
Smith also said junior defensive end Chris Smith, arrested last Wednesday for failure to appear in court, would play against the Wildcats.
“I’ve met with Chris, and we’ll get that handled,” the coach said, declining to elaborate.
