It's not easy to get playing time when the guy ahead of you leads the nation in rushing.
So Arizona running back Daniel Jenkins has decided to transfer for his final year of eligibilty, Rich Rodriguez told the Arizona Daily Star on Wednesday.
Jenkins graduated last week with a degree in public management and policy. NCAA rules allow him to join any program in the country and play right away, provided the school offers a graduate program unavailable at Arizona.
Jenkins, who is from southern California, was the second-leading rusher among running backs for the Wildcats in 2012. He gained 293 yards and scored twice. His best production came against Arizona State, when he rushed 21 times for 78 yards.
Starter Ka'Deem Carey led the nation with 1,929 yards and 23 touchdowns and has two years of eligibility remaining, thus assuring that Jenkins was unlikely to see much playing time next season.
Although Jenkins provided some sturdy depth behind Carey, the Wildcats are doing well on the recruiting trail and have three talented backs committed to sign in February. Rising sophomore Jared Baker also returns.
