Who's Playing
Northern Illinois @ VCU
Current Records: Northern Illinois 3-7; VCU 7-4
What to Know
The VCU Rams' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Northern Illinois Huskies at 4 p.m. ET Dec. 17 at Stuart Siegel Center. The Rams will be strutting in after a victory while NIU will be stumbling in from a defeat.
The Radford Highlanders typically have all the answers at home, but on Wednesday VCU proved too difficult a challenge. VCU bagged a 70-62 win. Their forward Brandon Johns Jr. filled up the stat sheet, picking up 18 points.
Meanwhile, NIU was expected to have a tough go of it on Monday, and, well, they did. Things couldn't have gone much worse for them as they lost 88-67 to the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Guard David Coit had a pretty forgettable game, playing for 38 minutes but putting up just nine points on 3-for-11 shooting.
VCU is the favorite in this one, with an expected 16-point margin of victory. Those sticking with them against the spread have guts, to put it politely, as the team has let down bettors in their past four games.
The Rams' victory brought them up to 7-4 while the Huskies' loss pulled them down to 3-7. Two stats to keep an eye on: VCU ranks 23rd in college basketball when it comes to takeaways, with 17.7 on average. Less enviably, NIU is 349th worst in college basketball in turnovers per game, with 16.1 on average. So the cards are definitely stacked against NIU.
