It wasn't pretty, and it wasn't expected, but Arizona State pulled off a thrilling 87-84 upset of No. 3 UCLA in triple overtime late Saturday night that sent fans storming onto the court at ASU's Wells Fargo Arena. The victory snapped a four-game losing streak for the Sun Devils (7-13, 3-7 Pac-12), who squandered a late lead against No. 19 USC on Thursday.

The upset by the Sun Devils, who were 10-point underdogs at Caesars Sportsbook, was just the second time in Division I history that an unranked team defeated a top-five opponent in a game that went three or more overtimes. According to ESPN, the only other that that has happened was in 1956 when unranked Canisius defeated No. 2 NC State.

But there were moments — even late into the third overtime — when it appeared ASU was going to flop late. UCLA got a decent look at the final buzzer after missing a free throw while down three points. But Peyton Watson's last-second 3-point attempt from the corner missed for the Bruins.

Marreon Jackson led Arizona State with 24 points, and Jalen Graham contributed 16 as six Sun Devils reached double figures. The loss caps a rough trip through Arizona for the Bruins (16-4, 8-3 Pac-12), who are now two games behind No. 7 Arizona in the league standings after losing to the Wildcats on Thursday.

UCLA leading scorer Johnny Juzang missed all six of his attempts during the overtime periods, and Jaime Jaquez Jr. ended up leading the Bruins with 27, though he missed a potential game-winner at the end of the second overtime.

It's been a rough season for the Sun Devils, who have been plagued by injuries for a second consecutive season after a streak of three straight 20-win campaigns. Saturday's result suggested they could be a threat in the final month of the regular season, however, and play a spoiler role while navigating a Pac-12 that is once again fighting for national relevance.
