It'll be the first Big Ten game at home in three weeks on Sunday for No. 16 Ohio State as it hosts Maryland in the first of two games between the conference foes this regular season. The Buckeyes (13-5, 6-3 Big Ten) are seeking to remain a factor in the Big Ten title race but will have their hands full with a Maryland squad that is tougher than its record suggests.

Little about this season has gone according to plan for the Terrapins (11-11, 3-8), who are playing under interim coach Danny Manning following Mark Turgeon's departure in early December. But despite being squarely outside the NCAA Tournament picture, the Terrapins remain plenty capable and are just a few close losses away from having a very different outlook.

A 65-63 loss to No. 13 Michigan State on Tuesday illustrated how the Terps can be a thorn in the side of anyone in the league on a given night with proven vets like Eric Ayala, Donta Scott, Fatts Russell and Hakim Hart in the starting lineup.

The Buckeyes, meanwhile, are playing for the first time in a week following a dramatic 81-78 loss at Purdue last Sunday. Ohio State's game against Iowa scheduled for Thursday was postponed due to travel issues for the Hawkeyes amid poor weather conditions. With a 9-0 record at Value City Arena this season, the Buckeyes are a tough out on their home floor.

Ohio State vs. Maryland prediction, picks

With Big Ten Player of the Year candidate E.J. Liddell leading the way, Ohio State is one of the country's most-potent offensive teams, and the Buckeyes should be able to score at an efficient rate on their home floor against Maryland's middling defense. Look for the Buckeyes to carry over the offensive rhythm they found in the second half of a close loss at Purdue last Sunday and cruise to a double-digit victory. Maryland is competitive and capable, but it's hard to imagine these Terrapins being the first to beat Ohio State at Value City Arena this season. Prediction: Ohio State 80, Maryland 67
