  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Bounces back after injury scare

Thompson stopped 16 of 18 shots in Sunday's 5-2 win over the Canadiens in Game 4. Thompson left Friday's Game 3 with an apparent lower-body injury, but he was able to avoid missing additional time. The Capitals put in a better effort Sunday, limiting the shots Thompson saw, and he let in only two power-play tallies to Juraj Slafkovsky and Cole Caufield. This win extended the Capitals' series lead to 3-1, and Thompson has allowed 10 goals on 114 shots over those four contests. Assuming he feels fine after this outing, he can be penciled in to start again in Wednesday's Game 5 on home ice.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Good to go for Game 4

Thompson (lower body) will tend the road twine Sunday versus the Canadiens in Game 4, per Sammi Silber of The Hockey News. Thompson was deemed a game-time decision heading into Sunday after he was injured in Friday's Game 3 loss. The 28-year-old needed assistance leaving the ice after getting hurt in that contest, but he's healthy enough to return for a pivotal road matchup just two days later. Charlie Lindgren is on hand as Washington's No. 2 netminder in the event that Thompson aggravates his lower-body injury.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Game-time decision

Thompson (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's Game 4 road matchup versus Montreal, according to Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post. Thompson participated in Sunday's morning skate after being helped off the ice in the third period of Friday's 6-3 loss to the Canadiens in Game 3. He occupied the starter's crease during Sunday's session before heading to the dressing room at the same time as Charlie Lindgren. The 28-year-old Thompson has a 2-1 record with a 2.73 GAA and a .917 save percentage this postseason.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Leaves Game 3 in third period

Thompson sustained an apparent injury to his left leg in Friday's Game 3 versus the Canadiens, Bailey Johnson of The Washington Post reports. Thompson took a beating in this game, but the final incident that knocked him out of the game was when Dylan Strome fell on his leg following the Canadiens' fifth goal. Thompson was unable to put weight on his left leg as he exited the contest. This doesn't bode well for his availability for Game 4 on Sunday and beyond. Charlie Lindgren will take over as the Capitals' No. 1 goalie as long as Thompson is out. Thompson gave up five goals on 35 shots prior to the injury.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Impressive in Game 2 win

Thompson stopped 25 of 26 shots in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Canadiens in Game 2. For the second game in a row, Thompson looked impressive between the posts and limited the damage to a minimum. He was beaten in the early stages of the second period by Christian Dvorak, but he protected the crease effectively the rest of the way and was at his best in the third period when he stopped all of the Canadiens' 14 shots. Thompson will aim to continue his winning ways when the series shifts to Montreal for Game 3 on Friday.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Collects Game 1 win in OT

Thompson stopped 33 shots in Monday's 3-2 overtime win over the Canadiens in Game 1 of their first-round series. The 28-year-old netminder returned from an upper-body injury that had sidelined him since April 2 and blanked Montreal through the first two periods, only for the Habs to strike twice in the third to force OT. Thompson was still rewarded for his efforts when Alex Ovechkin potted the winner. A healthy Thompson will be crucial to the Capitals' chances of advancing after he posted a 31-6-6 record with a 2.49 GAA and a .910 save percentage during the regular season. He should be back between the pipes for Game 2 on Wednesday.

Thompson (upper body) will the patrol the home blue paint Monday versus the Canadiens in Game 1, per Sammi Silber of The Hockey News. This will be Thompson's first start since April 2 -- he missed the last seven games of the regular season due to his upper-body injury. Prior to getting hurt, the 28-year-old had lost his last three outings, which followed a six-game winning streak. He's appeared in just four postseason contests in his career, owning a 2-2-0 record, .921 save percentage and 2.35 GAA.

Thompson (upper body) skated Thursday but isn't expected to dress versus the Penguins. Head coach Spencer Carbery doesn't plan to give much in the way of injury updates during the playoffs, but he did say that Thompson will continue to practice and progress toward returning. In the meantime, Clay Stevenson is set to make his first NHL start in Pittsburgh. If Thompson isn't an option for Game 1 of Washington's first-round series against Montreal on Monday, then Charlie Lindgren will likely start in that clash.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Facing short-term absence

Thompson (upper body) is expected to "miss a little bit of time," Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports Friday. Thompson is currently mired in a three-game losing streak during which he has posted a 5.58 GAA, .780 save percentage and 0-2-1 record. Since Thompson will be sidelined in the short term, the Caps recalled Hunter Shepard from the minors while Charlie Lindgren sees the bulk of the workload.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Hurt in Wednesday's game

Thompson (upper body) is doubtful to return to Wednesday's game versus the Hurricanes. Thompson was tagged for three goals on 12 shots in the first period before exiting the contest. It's possible the Capitals are taking a cautious approach here since they entered Wednesday 11 points clear of every other team in the Eastern Conference. More information on Thompson's status should be known prior to Friday's game versus the Blackhawks. Charlie Lindgren took over in goal and will likely see a starter's workload should Thompson miss additional time.

That disastrous outing notwithstanding, it's been a solid year for Thompson, as he has set new personal bests in wins (31) and GAA (2.43) -- though he continues to split the workload with Charlie Lindgren.

The 28-year-old has a tough road assignment Tuesday against a Winnipeg squad that has generated 3.45 goals per game this season, which ranks third in the NHL. Thompson conceded five goals in an overtime loss to the Jets on Feb. 1. He's 3-1-1 over six career appearances versus Winnipeg.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Strong performance in win

Thompson made 33 saves on 36 shots in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Panthers. After allowing three goals in a shaky first period, Thompson stood firm to tend a clean game the rest of the way. The 28-year-old netminder is up to an impressive 31-4-5 record with a 2.30 GAA and a .917 save percentage. With Saturday's win, Thompson extended his winning streak to six games. He is a top-tier fantasy option between the pipes and should be started with full confidence in all leagues with his win over the defending champions being proof that he is on top of his game. His next opportunity to guard the crease is Tuesday against the Jets.

  • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Name in record books with win

Thompson made 23 saves in a 4-1 win over Detroit on Tuesday. With the win, Thompson moved into some pretty elite territory. He is 30-4-5, and that matches the fewest regulation losses by a goalie in NHL history at the time of his 30th win. That's been done only three times, and just once in modern history. Tiny Thompson (1929-30), Bill Durnan (1943-44) and Linus Ullmark (2022-23) are the only other netminders to achieve that feat.

Thompson will make consecutive starts for the first time since March 1 and 3. In his last three outings, the 28-year-old netminder went 3-0-0 despite an .897 save percentage. • Capitals' Logan Thompson: Allows four goals in win

Thompson stopped 25 of 29 shots in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Ducks. The teams traded goals at a high rate in the first and third periods, and the Capitals came away with just enough more on offense to give Thompson his third straight win. He's allowed 10 goals in that span, and he's given up three or more tallies in seven of his nine outings since the start of February. That slip in performance hasn't hurt his record (28-4-5), but his GAA is up to 2.36 with a .916 save percentage over 37 appearances. The Capitals will likely continue alternating starts between Thompson and Charlie Lindgren -- look for Lindgren to play Thursday against the Kings while Thompson is tentatively on track for a Saturday matinee start in San Jose.
