Some fireworks in the first period of the San Jose-Colorado game on Saturday afternoon as Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart rocked Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog with this huge hit along the boards.

It's sure to start some debate as to whether or not it was illegal, and it will no doubt get the attention of NHL disciplinary czar Brendan Shanahan.

Stuart was not penalized for the hit.

Ryan O'Byrne instantly responded by going after Stuart and attempting to fight him, but it proved to be costly for the Avalanche. O'Byrne received a two-minute instigator penalty, a two-minute penalty for instigating a fight with a visor on, and a 10-minute misconduct. That gave the Sharks a four-minute power play and it didn't take them long to cash in as Patrick Marleau scored two goals a little more than a minute apart.

It gave Marleau eight goals, and at least two in each of his first four games.
