On March 16, long-time Packers center Scott Wells signed with the Rams in free agency, leaving a big hole for Green Bay to fill. And they've reportedly filled it, signing former Colts center Jeff Saturday.

Saturday was believed to be a candidate to join Peyton Manning in Denver, but with J.D. Walton on the roster, it wasn't necessarily an ideal match. Instead, Saturday will continue his career in Green Bay, filling a void that hasn't been empty since Wells started taking snaps for Green Bay in 2004.

The signing of Saturday won't lock down the center position for a long time for Green Bay: Saturday is 36 and only has a few years of playing time (at most) left.

But it does serve as a very nice short-term bridge for Green Bay. Saturday can step in right away and the Packers offensive line shouldn't miss a beat. Saturday worked with a quarterback in Manning that frequently employed the no-huddle offense, which is something Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay are wont to do, on a frequent basis.
