Giants defensive tackle Chris Canty has been added to the 53-man roster and will be available for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.

He was taken off the PUP on Monday.

To make room for Canty, the Giants moved running back Da'Rel Scott to IR.Scott had surgery on Tuesday to clean out his knee.

Canty practiced all week, which was his first such action since offseason knee surgery. He said three practices aren't a lot of preparation for him to be ready to play on Sunday, but coach Tom Coughlin was pleased with the veteran's conditioning.

“He’s in outstanding shape, condition-wise,” Coughlin said Friday. “He hasn’t been hit, obviously, but we’ll come up with the right formula [for playing time].”

Canty claimed to be down between "15 and 20" pounds since the end of last year.

Linval Joseph had been rotating with rookie Markus Kuhn and second-year defensive tackle Marvin Austin on the line, so this gives the unit more depth.

Canty was a major contributor in the Giants' Super Bowl run in 2011 and previously said he was playing through more pain in his knee last postseason than he is now.
