Dolphins offensive coordinator Mike Sherman isn’t pleased with the team’s tight ends.

“Terrible. Terrible. I would cut you today if I were the general manager,” he told rookie Michael Egnew.

“I’ve got nothing to say about you except you aren’t good enough,” he said to Charles Clay.

Sherman wasn’t handing out stickers or treats during the offense’s film session aired during this week’s edition of “Hard Knocks” on HBO. The show gives a behind-the-scenes take on building an NFL team. This week’s episode was hyped because it featured first-year coach Joe Philbin cutting former Pro Bowl receiver Chad Johnson after he was arrested for allegedly head-butting his wife last weekend.

But Sherman’s scathing criticism of the tight ends was one of the scenes that resonated most with the team. When Egnew, a third-round draft pick, saw the episode on Tuesday night, he turned off his phone so he wouldn’t receive calls or texts from family or friends.

"I guarantee any player can tell you the experience,” he told the Miami Herald. “It's one of those things that happens a lot because he wants the best out of his players. It just so happens that mine made the episode and it's ok."
