After drawing a start at the end of October, Gonzalez was moved back to the bench and has averaged 11 minutes in the four games since. The rookie has posted multiple steals in three of six appearances this season, but he remains on the fringes of Boston's rotation and is unlikely to see much playing time when the team is at full strength.

The rookie first-round pick replaced Sam Hauser on the top unit in his first career start, but Gonzalez didn't do much to seize the opportunity. The rookie made a mark on the defensive end, but he took on a lowly 4.5 percent usage rate while playing under 20 minutes. With the Celtics off to an 0-3 start, head coach Joe Mazzulla may continue to tinker with his lineups, so Gonzalez could be a candidate to move back to the bench in Boston's next game Monday at New Orleans.

The No. 28 pick of the 2025 NBA Draft didn't see the floor Opening Night against the 76ers on Wednesday, but Gonzalez made his official NBA debut Friday, when he checked in at the 5:32 mark of the first quarter. He didn't fill up the box score, but he was on the floor for most of the fourth quarter, and his 23 minutes were second most among the Boston reserves behind Anfernee Simons (27). Gonzalez also led the Celtics with a plus-7 point differential, and the Spaniard's hustle on defense could earn him a consistent spot in the rotation as the season progresses.
