  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Limited by fouls in loss

Jones contributed 13 points (6-11 FG, 1-4 3Pt), one rebound, one assist, one block and one steal across 26 minutes during Saturday's 105-100 loss to Utah. Jones racked up three early fouls in the loss, at which point he was subsequently benched. While this is the usual course of action when a player is dealing with early foul issues, it may have in fact cost the Pelicans the game in this instance. He ended the game with three fouls in 26 minutes, raising the question of whether he should have been allowed to play rather than being forced to sit on the bench. In any case, he still managed to produce a solid fantasy line and remains a must-roster player across most formats.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Continues excellent play

Jones ended Monday's 129-93 victory over the Kings with 18 points (7-9 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 3-4 FT), seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal across 27 minutes. Since returning from a three-game absence due to a fight fibula contusion, Jones has averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.8 blocks in 30.8 minutes per game. Those would all be career-high marks by a large margin, so Jones is clearly playing at a high level right now. The impending returns of CJ McCollum (chest) and Trey Murphy (knee) may impact Jones' usage, but he would still be a solid fantasy play due to his defensive prowess.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Pops defensively in return

Jones (fibula) had 19 points (6-8 FG, 2-4 3Pt, 5-6 FT), five steals, four rebounds, four assists and two blocks across 31 minutes during Tuesday's 131-110 win over Dallas. Jones returned from a three-game absence due to a right fibula contusion and didn't miss a beat. The defensive-minded forward excelled defensively, but he also submitted an efficient offensive outing, making it one of his best all-around performances of the young season. With Trey Murphy (knee) still sidelined, Jones should continue to play 30-plus minutes per game and can make a strong fantasy impact with his defensive prowess alone.

Jones (lower leg) is questionable for Tuesday's game against Dallas. Jones has missed the last three games due to a right fibula contusion, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be able to return to action Tuesday. If he's unavailable once again, Dyson Daniels should continue to start.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Questionable vs. Rockets

Jones (lower leg) is questionable for Friday's game against the Rockets. Jones missed his first game of the year Wednesday, which was a blowout loss to the Timberwolves. Both Jones and Zion Williamson (personal) are questionable again leading up to Friday's action. Fantasy managers should keep an eye on the team's injury report. Value could be available in daily formats.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Present at shootaround

Jones (fibula), who is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Timberwolves, was present for the team's morning shootaround, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports. While Jones hasn't yet been cleared to suit up against Minnesota, his participation in shootaround is certainly encouraging. He's played at least 30 minutes in each of his last four appearances, averaging 10.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 steals in 32.3 minutes per game during that time.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Iffy for Wednesday

Jones is listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against Minnesota with right fibula soreness. Jones is tending to the injury after logging a full workload in Monday's loss to Denver, playing 31 minutes while finishing with four points (1-3 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, two assists and two steals. He'll likely be re-evaluated following morning shootaround Wednesday before the Pelicans update his status ahead of the 8 p.m. ET opening tip.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Huge defensive effort Thursday

Jones logged 21 points (6-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 9-9 FT), five rebounds, three assists, four blocks and three steals across 34 minutes during Thursday's 125-116 victory over the Pistons. The four rejections were a career high for Jones, while the 21 points were a season-high mark. He also racked up three steals, doubling his total on the season. Jones' increased scoring came on a night when both Brandon Ingram (knee) and Zion Williamson (rest) were in street clothes, and he'll likely return to his support role when Williamson is back in action Saturday against the Hawks.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Nears double-double in win

Jones produced 13 points (4-8 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 3-5 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal across 38 minutes during Wednesday's 111-104 victory over the Grizzlies. Jones scored in double figures Wednesday and tied for second on the team in rebounds while approaching a double-double. He averaged 29.5 minutes per game last year and saw plenty of playing time to begin the 2023-24 season with Trey Murphy (knee) sidelined. Murphy is expected to be out several weeks, so Jones could continue to see an uptick in minutes early in the campaign.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Playing after all

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Out despite recovery

Jones (neck) will not play in Tuesday's preseason finale against Orlando, Philip Rossman-Reich of OrlandoMagicDaily.com reports. Jones suffered a neck issue during Saturday's preseason loss to the Hawks. His absence Tuesday appears to be precautionary, as coach Willie Green noted that Jones should be good to go for the regular-season opener versus Memphis on Oct. 25.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Early exit with neck injury

Jones played only eight minutes in Saturday's preseason loss to the Hawks due to a neck issue, Christian Clark of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. The defensive stalwart produced five points (2-4 FG, 1-2 3P), two steals, one offensive rebound and one assist before calling it a night. There's been no word yet from the Pelicans that Jones' injury is serious, so his limited workload Saturday may have been precautionary.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Slated to play Tuesday

Jones is expected to play under 20 minutes during Tuesday's preseason opener against the Magic, Will Guillory of The Athletic reports. Head coach Willie Green said all of the Pelicans' starters are expected to suit up and play under 20 minutes, so it should be a good opportunity for the first unit to develop some chemistry before the regular season. Jones has established himself as one of the best young defenders in the NBA over his first two seasons, but his offensive game remains a work in progress. With Zion Williamson healthy, it'll be difficult for Jones to make strides offensively, but he should remain an elite source of steals for fantasy players in category leagues.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Staying in New Orleans

Jones agreed to a four-year, $54 million contract with the Pelicans on Friday, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports. The Pelicans declined his team option Thursday, but their plan was always to re-sign him to an extension. Jones is likely to play a big role for the Pelicans, as he's elite defensively but can also space the floor and facilitate on the wings. Last season, Jones compiled averages of 9.8 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.6 steals and 0.8 three-pointers per game.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Supplies well-rounded line in win

Jones finished Saturday's 122-114 win over the Clippers with 12 points (2-3 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 7-7 FT), four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block across 30 minutes. Jones reached double figures in the scoring column for the second time in seven games, and while fantasy managers aren't rostering him for his offensive contributions, he hasn't been producing eye-popping numbers on the defensive end of late, either. Even after making a mark in both of the defensive categories Saturday, Jones is averaging just 0.1 blocks and 1.0 steals in that same seven-game stretch.

  • Pelicans' Herbert Jones: Bounces back in steals column

Jones recorded 13 points (5-11 FG, 3-5 3Pt), six rebounds, four rebounds and two steals across 35 minutes in Tuesday's 120-109 loss to the Warriors. Jones is rostered in fantasy leagues primarily for his contributions in the steals department, and after coming up empty in the category in Monday's blowout win over Portland, he was able to get back on track in the second leg of the back-to-back set. The second-year forward supplemented the steals total with solid production in the rebounds, assists and three-pointers, but he can't be relied upon to produce in all of those areas on a regular basis. He had turned in more modest averages of 3.0 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 0.3 treys in his prior six contests.
