Noah Vonleh: Traded and waived
The Celtics traded Vonleh and cash consideration to the Spurs on Thursday in exchange for a future second-round pick, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Vonleh was subsequently waived by San Antonio.
The 27-year-old big man is free to hit the open market and attempt to find work elsewhere. He saw limited playing time in Boston this season, averaging 7.4 minutes across 23 appearances. The Celtics will open up a roster spot by trading away Vonleh and save on the luxury tax, as his contract was to become fully guaranteed this weekend.

Celtics' Noah Vonleh: DNP in win
Vonley did not see the court during Boston's 116-110 win Wednesday night in Toronto.
Wednesday night's DNP-Coach's Decision was Vonleh's seventh over Boston's last 11 games. Vonleh earned meaningful minutes off the bench early in the season when the Celtics were dealing with injuries. But the muscular post player is now squarely behind Luke Kornet and Blake Griffin for big-man reserve minutes. Vonleh's situation will worsen when Robert Williams returns.

Vonleh received a DNP-Coach's Decision in Wednesday's 114-113 loss at Cleveland.
Wednesday marked Vonleh's first DNP of the season after appearing in Boston's first six contests. The veteran reserve has seen his minutes slowly decline since the 20 minutes of run he received on Opening Night. Vonleh appears to have dropped behind Luke Kornet, now healthy after an ankle issue, and Sam Hauser on Celtics' depth chart.

Vonleh chipped in two points (1-4 FG), five rebounds, two blocks and one steal over 12 minutes during Monday's 120-102 loss to the Bulls.
Vonleh has displayed a major propensity to pick up fouls -- collecting 17 in 61 total minutes played thus far. While those tendencies reduce his role, Vonleh was destined for a shrinking role with Tuesday's return of Al Horford (back). Nonetheless, Vonleh brings a physical impact defensively, highlighted by six swats in four games.

With the majority of Boston's regulars sidelined, Vonleh entered the starting lineup during the Celtics' last exhibition, but he'll revert to his usual bench role during the preseason finale. The veteran big man is competing for a depth role during his first season with the Celtics.

Vonleh signed a one-year contract with Boston on Monday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
The 2014 first-round pick last played in the NBA with the Nets briefly during the 2020-21 season, appearing in just four games. Vonleh will try to make the final roster with a strong performance during training camp and the preseason.
