The New York Knicks' 2011-12 season ended with knee surgeries. The 2012-13 season will begin with one.
The New York Times reported on Friday that Knicks guard Ronnie Brewer underwent arthroscopic surgery after tearing the meniscus in his left knee. He will reportedly miss six weeks.
The Knicks open preseason play at the Washington Wizards on Oct. 11. Their regular season opener is slated for Nov. 1 at the Brooklyn Nets. Brewer's reported timeline would therefore have him back in action during the preseason and with more than a week to spare before the opener.
Brewer, 27, has missed just one game combined over the last two NBA seasons. He spent the last two years with the Chicago Bulls, averaging 6.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.1 assists last season. He signed with the Knicks as a free agent in July, joining a new-look backcourt rotation that includes Raymond Felton, Jason Kidd, Pablo Prigioni. J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert will return from last season.
Knicks guards Jeremy Lin, Baron Davis and Shumpert all suffered season-ending knee injuries down the stretch last season. Shumpert is expected to miss the opening months of the 2012-13 season and Brewer had been slated to start in his place.
