Carmelo Anthony is out Saturday against the Cavaliers because of a sprained left ankle, coach Mike Woodson told reporters.
Anthony sprained the ankle Thursday against the Lakers when he fell awkwardly on it after a challenge at the rim from Dwight Howard. Anthony stayed in the game to shoot two free throws, but then checked out and went to the locker room, not returning to the game.
Rookie Chris Copeland is slated to start in place of Anthony, as Rasheed Wallace is sitting with a sore foot.
Anthony's status for Monday's game against the Rockets is unknown, though he's listed as day-to-day and is expected to be available.
This will be the third game this season Melo has missed, with the Knicks going 1-1 in his absence. The win was a 20-point blowout of the Heat in Miami.
