Rays' Elvin Rodriguez: Perfect outing in season debut
Rodriguez struck out five over 3.1 perfect innings during Friday's 2-1 loss against Atlanta.
Rodriguez was recalled from Triple-A Durham before Friday's game and was called on to replace Tyler Glasnow (cramps) in the sixth. The 25-year-old made the most of his opportunity by tossing 3.1 perfect innings against one of the best offenses in baseball. It's unclear if Rodriguez will get additional opportunities with the Rays following the All-Star break.

Elvin Rodriguez: Heading to Japan
Rodriguez was designated for assignment by the Rays on Saturday and will head overseas to pitch in Japan, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
In an unusual sequence of events, Rodriguez reportedly had a deal with a Japanese team in place earlier in the week but was nonetheless called up by the Rays on Friday and proceeded to toss 3.1 perfect innings against Atlanta. The injury-plagued Rays' pitching staff could probably use him in the second half, but he'll be pitching in NPB on a deal which is apparently "lucrative."

Rays' Elvin Rodriguez: Selected from Durham
The Rays selected Rodriguez from Triple-A Durham on Friday, Tricia Whitaker of Bally Sports Sun reports.
Rodriguez holds a 3.40 ERA and 1.11 WHIP through 45 innings across 10 starts in Triple-A this season. He recently returned from right elbow tightness, and now he'll head to the majors, although it's not clear what his role might be for Tampa Bay. Rodriguez has a bit of major-league experience already -- he pitched 29.2 innings for Detroit last season and put up a 10.62 ERA and 1.92 WHIP alongside a 25:15 K:BB. Ryan Thompson was optioned to Durham to clear a spot on the active roster, and Jose Lopez was DFA'd to clear a 40-man spot.

Rays' Elvin Rodriguez: Returns from IL
Rodriguez (elbow) was reinstated from Triple-A Durham's 7-day injured list Sunday and covered three innings while striking out two and allowing one run on three hits and one walk in his return to the rotation.
Rodriguez missed approximately five weeks due to right elbow tightness before he was cleared to rejoin the Durham rotation after making just one rehab start in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. The 25-year-old was on a limited workload Sunday, but he was generally efficient during his time on the mound, spotting 38 of his 55 pitches for strikes. Rodriguez doesn't have a spot on the Rays' 40-man roster, but he could nonetheless emerge as a starting option for the big club if he can stay healthy and continue to turn in quality results with Durham.

Rays' Elvin Rodriguez: To IL with elbow tightness
Rodriguez has been placed on the 7-day injured list with Triple-A Durham due to elbow tightness, Bulls play-by-play voice Patrick Kinas reports.
The 25-year-old righty logged a 3.43 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 42 innings across nine starts for Durham before exiting his last start after 58 pitches with the injury. He is not on the 40-man roster but had seemingly pitched himself into position for a return trip to the majors before this setback. Rodriguez should be considered out indefinitely.

Rays' Elvin Rodriguez: Gets NRI deal from Tampa Bay
Rodriguez agreed Wednesday with the Rays on a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Rodriguez, 24, struggled to a 10.62 ERA and 25:15 K:BB while allowing 12 home runs in a 29.2-inning sample with Detroit in 2022. The Tigers plan to recall Rodriguez from Triple-A Toledo to have him pitch in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Mariners, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
Rodriguez is expected to be designated as the 29th man for the twin bill, but the Tigers haven't indicated whether he'll be in line for a traditional start in the nightcap or if he'll be deployed as a bulk reliever. Either way, Rodriguez profiles as the Tigers pitcher most likely to factor into any decision. Over 26 innings at the big-league level in 2022, Rodriguez has generated a 10.04 ERA and 1.85 WHIP.

Tigers' Elvin Rodriguez: Allows 11 baserunners in return
Rodriguez (0-3) took the loss Thursday in Cleveland, allowing three runs on seven hits, four walks and a hit batsman while striking out four in 5.2 innings.
In his first appearance in the majors since June 11, Rodriguez pitched around trouble and limited the Guardians to three runs. Eight of the 11 baserunners he allowed reached in the second or third inning, but he managed to leave five of them stranded. While it wasn't a stellar outing, it was an improvement over the 11.51 ERA he posted in his first 20.2 innings in the majors. It remains to be seen whether or not he'll return to Triple-A Toledo or continue with Detroit after the All-Star break.

Rodriguez was optioned to Triple-A Toledo on Thursday.
Rodriguez was promoted Thursday to make his first start in the majors since June 11. He only surrendered three runs but allowed 11 baserunners across 5.2 innings to take the loss against the Guardians. Rodriguez will be a candidate to earn starts in the second half of the campaign, though both Rony Garcia (shoulder) and Matt Manning (shoulder) are in the midst of rehab assignments and will soon enter the starting mix.

Tigers' Elvin Rodriguez: Confirmed to start Thursday
Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said Rodriguez will be called up from Triple-A Toledo to start Thursday's game against the Guardians in Cleveland, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Rodriguez will be rejoining the big club for the first time since mid-June, when he was optioned to Toledo after turning in an 11.21 WHIP and 1.81 WHIP over a four-game run in the Tigers rotation. The 24-year-old right-hander has found more success in his five outings since returning to Triple-A (3.33 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 20:6 K:BB in 24.1 innings), but he'll still make for a high-risk streaming option Thursday.

Tigers' Elvin Rodriguez: Blasted for 10 runs
Rodriguez (0-1) allowed 10 runs on 11 hits and two walks over 4.1 innings Friday, striking out four and taking a loss against the Yankees.
Rodriguez turned in a pair of scoreless frames before things began to unravel in the third inning. Two of the four home runs he allowed came during the third, including Aaron Judge's solo shot with two outs. The other two were given up during the fifth and he was bounced from the contest after Matt Carpenter's two-run blast. Rodriguez's season ERA ballooned to 10.13 through 16 innings. He's currently projected for a home matchup with the Blue Jays next week.

Tigers' Elvin Rodriguez: Cleared to make next start
Rodriguez (lower body) is listed as the Tigers' scheduled starting pitcher for Friday's road game against the Yankees, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
After striking out four Guardians through four scoreless frames in his second career MLB start last Sunday, Rodriguez was pulled in the fifth inning after developing lower-body cramping. The right-hander is apparently feeling fine again after some rest and getting rehydrated, so he'll be in the clear to make his third turn through the rotation this weekend. Detroit still has six starting pitchers currently residing on the injured list, so barring an implosion in New York, Rodriguez should have a good chance at sticking in the rotation beyond Friday's start.
