Sugano turned in a second straight quality start, though the long ball remains a problem. He gave up solo home runs to Gavin Sheets and Luis Campusano in the fifth inning. Still, over 16.2 innings across three starts, Sugano has a 2.16 ERA, 0.78 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB. He's made two of his starts on the road, and it's likely his luck will run out with a steady stretch of time at Coors Field. The right-hander's next start is projected to be at Houston.

Making his first start at hitter-friendly Coors Field, Sugano couldn't have asked for better results against Philly's talent-laden offense. After a 2025 season in which he allowed an MLB-high 33 home runs with the Orioles, Sugano had few suitors in free agency and inked a one-year, $5.1 million deal with Colorado. Through two starts with his new club, Sugano owns a 1.69 ERA and 9:3 K:BB across 10.2 innings. He's slated to take the mound again Friday in San Diego.

Sugano fared well in his Rockies debut versus a formidable Toronto lineup, but he came just one out short of being eligible for the win Monday. The right-hander posted a respectable nine whiffs on the evening, though one of his hits surrendered was a home run off the bat of George Springer in the third inning. Sugano is unlikely to project as an attractive fantasy option in starts at hitter-friendly Coors Field in 2026, and he'll be an option to avoid in most formats at home versus the Phillies his next time out.

The Rockies signed Sugano to a one-year contract Tuesday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Sugano posted a 4.64 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 106:36 K:BB over 157 innings covering 30 starts for the Orioles in 2025 in his first year in the majors. He had just a 15.7 percent strikeout rate and served up 33 home runs, which is a bad combination for a pitcher who will now have to tame Coors Field in his home starts.

Sugano (10-10) took the loss Saturday as the Orioles fell 6-1 to the Yankees, giving up four runs on five hits -- including three home runs -- over 4.1 innings. He struck out three without walking a batter.
The 35-year-old righty tossed 48 of 73 pitches for strikes before getting the hook, but Sugano may have been catching too much of the plate -- Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Ryan McMahon all took him deep in the first two innings. Sugano lost his last five decisions to put his first North American season in the books, with his last win coming Aug. 14. Sugano completed six innings against Toronto on Saturday, allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out four batters over six innings.
Sugano made an early exit in his previous start after being hit on the foot by a comebacker, and he had another injury scare Saturday when he was struck on the left leg on another comebacker in the first inning. This time around the right-hander was able to remain in the game, and he looked no worse for wear as he fired six strong innings. The only run Sugano allowed came on an Addison Barger solo homer in the fifth frame, and the Japanese hurler finished with his first quality start since Aug. 8. Sugano allowed 15 runs (14 earned) over his previous three starts spanning 12.1 innings coming into Saturday, so this was a much-needed bounce-back outing. He'll carry a 4.39 ERA into his next start, which is slated to be a tough matchup against the Yankees next week.
