Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Bounces back with solid start
Rodriguez allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings in a no-decision against Houston on Monday.
Rodriguez was pummeled in his previous start, giving up eight runs (seven earned) over 3.2 innings against Colorado. It was thus promising to see the right-hander respond with a much better performance Monday, as he racked up a season-high six punchouts while giving up an acceptable two earned runs. Rodriguez took a 3-1 lead into the sixth inning, but he appeared to run out of steam in that frame, as he gave up three doubles and two runs before departing with one out. Two very poor outings through five starts have Rodriguez at an ugly 8.10 ERA on the campaign, but he'll try to build some positive momentum in his next appearance, which is lined up to be a home matchup against Tampa Bay.

Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Lit up in loss
Rodriguez (2-2) allowed eight runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three over 3.2 innings to take the loss versus the Rockies on Tuesday.
Rodriguez allowed three home runs in this outing, which accounted for five of the runs on his line. After showing some promise against the Tigers last week, this was a major step back for Rodriguez. He's pitched to a putrid 10.00 ERA, 1.94 WHIP and 17:11 K:BB through 18 innings over four starts since he recovered from a bout of right shoulder inflammation. The 26-year-old right-hander is projected to make his next start at home versus the Astros, though at this point, he's too risky for fantasy managers to deploy in virtually all matchups until he can show some consistent improvement.

Angels' Grayson Rodriguez: Tames Tigers in victory
Rodriguez (2-1) earned the win over Detroit on Thursday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks while striking out five batters over five innings.
Rodriguez allowed a second-inning solo homer to Wenceel Perez, but that was the only run the Tigers managed against him. In fact, Rodriguez yielded just one other hit -- a first-inning single -- and retired 10 of the 11 batters he faced following the long ball. This was easily the left-hander's best outing since making his season debut May 17, as he gave up 11 runs across 9.1 frames over his other two starts. Rodriguez will look to build upon Thursday's performance next time he takes the mound, which lines up to be at home versus Colorado early next week.

After opening the season on the injured list due to right shoulder inflammation, Rodriguez failed to contain the Dodgers' offense in his first start of the year and ultimately exited before completing four innings. Having not pitched in the big leagues since 2024 due to multiple arm injuries, the rust was evident for the right-hander, who struggled both in permitting free passes and limiting hard contact Sunday. How the Angels monitor his workload coming off those injuries remains to be seen, though Rodriguez is tentatively scheduled to make his next start Friday against the Rangers.

Rodriguez pitched well in a rehab start for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Sunday, striking out 11 over 4.2 innings while yielding two runs. He got his pitch count up to 94 in the outing, so the righty is sufficiently stretched out. Rodriguez has been out all season with right shoulder inflammation and has not made an appearance at the major-league level since 2024 due to multiple arm injuries. He was acquired from the Orioles in November in exchange for Taylor Ward.

Though Rodriguez was pulled before the end of the fifth frame, he took on a hefty workload of 94 pitches. The righty's pitch count was inflated in part because opposing batters had a hard time putting the ball in play. Rodriguez did hit a batter and uncork a wild pitch in addition to his two walks, but he was mostly sharp, throwing 63 strikes. Given his strong outing and his ability to approach 100 pitches, Rodriguez may not need many more rehab appearances before he's ready to join the Angels' rotation.

Rodriguez will jump up a level after an appearance Tuesday in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League. Rodriguez threw 73 pitches in that outing, and he's slated to build up to six innings or 90 pitches Sunday, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com. While Rodriguez looks ready to handle a typical starter's workload, the Angels could keep him in the minors past Sunday to allow him to knock off more rust. The 26-year-old didn't pitch at all in 2025 due to multiple elbow injuries that he ultimately addressed with a debridement procedure in August, and though he received a clean bill of health heading into spring training, he was forced to the 15-day injured list after experiencing shoulder inflammation late in camp.
