  • Marlins' Kyle Tyler: Inks minors contract with Miami

Miami signed Tyler to a minor-league contract Thursday with an invitation to major-league spring training, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Tyler spent the entire 2023 season with the Double-A affiliate of the Mariners and posted a rough 5.60 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across 135 innings. The soon-to-be 27-year-old will function as organizational pitching depth for the Marlins leading into the 2024 campaign.

  • Mariners' Kyle Tyler: Signs MiLB deal with Seattle

Tyler agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Wednesday.

Tyler spent the majority of the 2022 season at Triple-A, struggling to a 5.68 ERA in 25.1 innings between the Pacific Coast League affiliates of the Padres and Giants. The 26-year-old right-hander has made only seven career appearances at the MLB level and will function as organizational depth for Seattle leading into the 2023 campaign.

  • Kyle Tyler: Cut by Giants

The Giants released Tyler on Sunday.

After electing free agency in early July, Tyler caught on with the Giants on a minor-league deal and was assigned to Triple-A Sacramento. The Giants evidently didn't see much of a future in the organization for the 25-year-old right-hander, who was cut loose after giving up four earned runs on six hits and three walks over 3.2 innings for Sacramento. Tyler could be looking to move on to his fifth organization of the season after he was previously with the Angels, Red Sox and Padres before landing with the Giants.

  • Giants' Kyle Tyler: Inks deal with San Francisco

Tyler signed a minor-league contract with the Giants on Wednesday.

Tyler has now changed organizations five times this season, but his latest move was on his own accord after he elected free agency earlier this month rather than accepting an outright assignment to the Padres' Triple-A affiliate in El Paso. The 25-year-old right-hander will report to Triple-A Sacramento with his new organization and will hope to earn a call-up to the major-league club at some point in the second half of the season.

  • Padres' Kyle Tyler: DFA'd again

The Padres designated Tyler for assignment Sunday.

Tyler has been a fixture on the transaction wire throughout the season, as Sunday marks the sixth occasion in which he's been DFA'd dating back to spring training. He'll be exposed to waivers once again but will remain in the San Diego organization if he goes unclaimed by MLB's other 29 clubs.

  • Padres' Kyle Tyler: Optioned to Triple-A

Tyler was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

Tyler made two relief appearances during his time with the major-league club, and he struck out two in four scoreless innings. In spite of his success in the big-league bullpen, he'll return to El Paso as part of a move after Mike Clevinger (illness) was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list.

  • Padres' Kyle Tyler: Picks up first big-league victory

Tyler (1-0) earned the win against the Cubs on Tuesday, pitching two scoreless innings during which he allowed one hit and struck out one batter.

Padres starter Sean Manaea struggled in the contest, allowing five runs over four frames. San Diego was down 4-0 when Tyler entered with a pair of runners on base and no outs in the fifth, and he was able to get out of the inning with Chicago scoring only one more run. He then pitched a perfect sixth, and the Padres offense came to life with 10 runs between the sixth and seventh frames, rewarding Tyler with the victory. This was his first major-league appearance of the season after allowing four runs and posting a 6:6 K:BB over 12.1 innings with the Angels last season.

  • Padres' Kyle Tyler: Contract selected by Padres

Tyler's contract was selected from Triple-A El Paso on Sunday.

The reliever has produced a 5.51 ERA and 1.55 WHIP with 19 strikeouts over 16.1 innings in 11 appearances, including two starts at Triple-A. He last appeared in the majors in 2021, tossing 12.1 frames with the Angels while compiling a 2.92 ERA and 1.14 WHIP with six punchouts.

  • Padres' Kyle Tyler: Designated for assignment

Avila was designated for assignment by the Padres on Monday.

Tyler was optioned to Triple-A El Paso in mid-April, and he'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster after posting a 5.51 ERA and 1.55 WHIP in 16.1 innings over 11 appearances (two starts) with the minor-league club. It seems likely that he'll remain in El Paso if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Padres' Kyle Tyler: Sent back to minors

Tyler was optioned to Triple-A El Paso on Friday.

It's been a whirlwind month for Tyler, who has been claimed twice by the Padres after being DFA'd twice by the Angels, once by the Red Sox and once by San Diego since March 19. In fact, the right-hander has been shuttled around so much that he hasn't been able to get into any major- or minor-league games yet this season. Tyler allowed four runs over 12.1 innings with the Angels last season and posted a mediocre 6:6 K:BB across his five relief appearances.

  • Padres' Kyle Tyler: Cast off roster

The Padres designated Tyler for assignment Thursday.

The transaction opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for outfielder Jose Azocar, whose contract was selected from the minors in advance of the Padres' Opening Day game Thursday in Arizona. Tyler held a spot on the Padres' 40-man roster for only two weeks after San Diego claimed the right-hander off waivers from the Red Sox.

  • Padres' Kyle Tyler: Sent to Triple-A

The Padres optioned Tyler to Triple-A El Paso on Wednesday.

Tyler has been a fixture on MLB's transaction log this month, but at least this time, he'll stick around in the Padres organization after getting designated for assignment and subsequently claimed off waivers on two other occasions. Though he'll begin the season in El Paso, Tyler's status as a 40-man roster player will keep him on the short list for a promotion when the Padres are in need of a fresh relief arm.

  • Padres' Kyle Tyler: Claimed by Padres

Tyler was claimed off waivers by the Padres on Saturday.

Tyler has now been part of three separate organizations over the last five days. He's now set to compete for a bullpen spot in San Diego, assuming he's finally able to settle down there.

Tyler was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Thursday.

Tyler was claimed off waivers from the Angels on Tuesday, but he'll now be designated for assignment for the second time in less than a week. The right-hander posted a 3.66 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 86 innings across 20 appearances (14 starts) in the minors last year and is in line to begin the 2022 campaign at Triple-A Worcester, assuming he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Red Sox's Kyle Tyler: Catches on with BoSox

The Red Sox claimed Tyler off waivers from the Angels on Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Worcester, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.

In a corresponding move, Boston designated infielder Hudson Potts for assignment to clear room on the 40-man roster for Tyler. The 25-year-old righty reached the big leagues for the first time in 2021, making all five of his appearances for the Angels out of the bullpen while submitting a 2.92 ERA and 1.14 WHIP in 12.1 innings. He's typically served as a starter for most of his minor-league career, but it's unclear in what capacity Boston plans to deploy Tyler as he heads to its Triple-A affiliate.
