Sandlin (5-5) allowed one run on one hit without recording an out to take the loss in Friday's 9-8 defeat at the hands of the Rays. Sandlin served up a walk-off solo home run to Wander Franco just three pitches into his ninth-inning appearance after the Guardians had rallied to tie the game. With three runs allowed over three innings plus two losses to begin August, it's been a rough stretch for Sandlin. He has a 3.65 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 49:16 K:BB through 44.1 innings this season.... Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Handed loss Wednesday
Sandlin (5-4) allowed a run on a hit and a walk over two-thirds of an inning to take the loss versus the Astros on Wednesday. Sandlin surrendered a sixth-inning solo shot to Chas McCormick that was the final run of a 3-2 game. It's been a rough patch for Sandlin lately -- he's been scored on in five of his last seven appearances. That's pushed his ERA up to 3.64 with a 0.98 WHIP and 47:16 K:BB through 42 innings overall. He's added five holds, but he's likely to remain in lower-leverage assignments until he can steady his pitching.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Secures fifth win
Sandlin (5-3) allowed a run on two hits and struck out one over one inning to pick up the win Wednesday over the Royals. Sandlin worked the fifth inning after starter Gavin Williams was inefficient over four scoreless frames (87 pitches). While Sandlin has struggled lately, giving up six runs over his last four innings, he's picked up two holds and a win in that span. He's at a 3.63 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 43:14 K:BB through 39.2 innings while continuing to fill a versatile role in the Guardians' bullpen.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Wins again Wednesday
Sandlin (4-3) didn't allow a baserunner over 1.1 scoreless innings and struck out two to earn the win in Wednesday's 14-1 victory over the Royals. Starter Logan Allen went just 3.2 innings due to a high pitch count (98), so Sandlin was in line for the win, his second in as many appearances. He's given up three runs over 9.1 innings in June, and Sandlin has been solid as a middle reliever with no clearly defined role in the Guardians' bullpen. He has a 3.14 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 27:10 K:BB with two holds through 28.2 innings this season. The right-hander will likely continue to serve in somewhat of a fireman role, but he's unlikely to see much late-inning work.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Nabs third win
Sandlin (3-3) allowed a run on one walk and struck out one over two innings without giving up a hit to earn the win Thursday over the Athletics. Oakland was able to open the scoring against Sandlin in the fifth inning after an inefficient four frames from starter Logan Allen. The Guardians quickly replied in their half of the frame to gain the lead didn't look back. Sandlin has allowed three runs, eight hits and four walks while striking out seven over eight innings through eight appearances in June. He has a solid 3.29 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB over 27.1 innings overall while primarily working in a low-leverage role.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Dealt another loss
Sandlin (2-3) allowed a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in one inning of relief Friday, taking the loss versus the Twins. Sandlin had trouble in the seventh inning, and it led to him giving up the lone run of the contest on a Jorge Polanco double. This was the first time Sandlin's has given up an earned run since April 30 -- he allowed one unearned run over 9.2 innings across his last nine appearances. While he's hit a minor rough patch by getting scored on in two of his last three outings, he still has a respectable 3.38 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB over 21.1 innings this season. Sandlin has added two holds and a blown save in 21 appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Charged with loss
Sandlin (2-2) allowed an unearned run and one walk while striking out one over one inning, taking the extra-inning loss versus the Cardinals on Saturday. It was a passed ball that allowed Brendan Donovan to scurry home for the decisive run in the 10th inning. Prior to Saturday, Sandlin had pitched 7.2 scoreless innings to begin May. The right-hander has been effective in a low-leverage role with a 3.26 ERA, though his 0.78 WHIP shows that he's been better at limiting baserunners through 19.1 innings this season. He's added a hold and a blown save, but he's unlikely to challenge Emmanuel Clase or Trevor Stephan for late-inning work.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Collects second win
Sandlin (2-1) struck out one over 1.1 perfect innings to earn the win Thursday over the White Sox. Sandlin kept the game tied by getting the last out of the sixth inning, and he stayed in for the seventh after the Guardians took the lead. He's pitched 6.1 scoreless innings over five appearances in May, allowing just one hit while striking out six and walking none. The right-hander had a shaky start to the year, but he's now at a reasonable 3.71 ERA, 0.82 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB with one blown save over 17 innings this season. He's likely to remain in a low-leverage role since the Guardians have one of the strongest bullpens in the league.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Handed loss Sunday
Sandlin (1-1) allowed two runs on a hit and a walk over two-thirds of an inning, taking the loss Sunday versus the Nationals. Sandlin also took a blown save, squandering a one-run lead. Lane Thomas generated a run on a sacrifice fly, and Trevor Stephan went on to allow an inherited runner to score the go-ahead run on a Joey Meneses single. Sandlin has given up at least one run in four of his seven outings this season. He has a 4.70 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB across 7.2 innings while mainly serving in a low-leverage role.... Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Picks up win Friday
Sandlin (1-0) allowed a hit and struck out one over 1.1 innings to earn the win versus the Mariners on Friday. He was not charged with a run. Sandlin came on after Hunter Gaddis ran into some trouble in the fourth inning. Sandlin then gave up an RBI double to Julio Rodriguez, which made it a 5-4 game, before getting things under control. The Guardians held the lead the rest of the way, and Sandlin delivered a clean fifth inning en route to the win in his first outing this season. The right-hander was a solid part of the Guardians' bullpen a year ago, posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 41:24 K:BB across 44 innings while adding seven holds and a 5-2 record. He should continue to see low-leverage assignments to begin 2023.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Out for remainder of postseason
Sandlin was diagnosed Monday with an upper-back/right shoulder strain and is expected to miss the remainder of the postseason, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports. Sandlin left Saturday's Game 2 wild-card round victory over the Rays early with a tight arm, and follow-up tests didn't yield promising news. Cody Morris and Aaron Civale are candidates to join the active roster as replacements for Sandlin ahead of their American League Division Series against the Yankees.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Leaves with tight arm
Sandlin exited Saturday's wild-card game against the Rays with upper-arm tightness, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. The severity of Sandlin's injury is not yet clear. He faced three batters prior to his exit, walking one before retiring the next two, including one strikeout.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Steady work late in season
Sandlin has not allowed more than one run in an appearance since the All-Star break. Sandlin has had a little misfortune, taking three blown saves while adding a win and two holds in those 21 outings. Nonetheless, it's been a strong stretch of pitching -- he's logged a 0.93 ERA and 0.78 WHIP over 19.1 innings in the second half. The bullpen has been a strength for the Guardians in 2022, with closer Emmanuel Clase leading baseball with 40 saves and James Karinchak and Trevor Stephan serving as the top setup men, leaving Sandlin in a middle-relief role.... Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Collects fifth win
Sandlin (5-2) struck out two in 1.1 perfect innings to earn the win Tuesday over the Padres. After starter Aaron Civale fell one out shy of qualifying for the win, Sandlin struck out Jorge Alfaro to end the fifth inning and then retired the side in the sixth to preserve the Guardians' lead. This extended Sandlin's scoreless run to 13.1 innings, a span in which he has a 14:1 K:BB. The right-hander's strong pitching hasn't led to a more prominent role yet -- he hasn't logged a save or a hold during the streak, though he took one blown save for allowing an inherited runner to score. For the season, Sandlin has a 2.18 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 29:19 K:BB while adding five holds through 33 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Called up by Cleveland
Sandlin was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday, Tom Withers of the Associated Press reports. After spending a couple weeks in the minors, Sandlin will reclaim a spot in Cleveland's bullpen. He posted a 2.89 ERA over his first 18.2 big-league innings of the season, but his 1.61 WHIP suggests he was a bit on the fortunate side.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Moves to minors
The Guardians optioned Sandlin to Triple-A Columbus on Monday. Cleveland's pitching staff now sits at 12 men -- one below the maximum amount imposed by MLB -- but Sandlin was sent to the minors to clear a spot on the 26-man active roster for right-hander Aaron Civale (thigh), who is on track to come off the 15-day injured list to start Tuesday's game in Minnesota. Sandlin had appeared in 19 games out of the Cleveland bullpen this season, compiling a 2.89 ERA, 1.61 WHIP and 18:13 K:BB across 18.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Yields run but gets hold
Sandlin allowed a run on two hits and a walk with one strikeout in one inning to earn a hold in Wednesday's 7-5 win over the Rockies. Sandlin hadn't allowed a run in his last four outings (3.2 innings), but he gave up an RBI single to Yonathan Daza in the seventh inning. The Guardians were able to keep the lead there, which earned Sandlin his fifth hold in 18 appearances this season. He's added a 3.00 ERA, 1.61 WHIP, 11:17 K:BB and 4-2 record across 18 innings, with the high walk rate being the one drawback to what's otherwise been a solid campaign for the 25-year-old reliever.... Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Snares win over Royals
Sandlin (4-2) issued three walks in a scoreless inning to earn the win Monday versus the Royals. Sandlin got a double play to help his cause after Trevor Stephan allowed hits to three straight batters to begin the eighth inning. The Guardians rallied to retake the lead in the bottom of the eighth, giving Sandlin his fourth win in his last eight outings. The 25-year-old is still walking a fine line with his control -- he's walked 15 batters in as many innings this year, but he's sporting a 3.00 ERA with four holds. It'll be hard for him to maintain a reasonable amount of success until he can cut down on the free passes.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Picks up win Saturday
Sandlin (3-1) allowed one hit over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the win Saturday versus the Twins. Sandlin got the last out of the eighth inning and also pitched the ninth before the Guardians rallied for the lead in the 10th. The right-hander has picked up all three of his wins this season in his last five outings. He's struggled with control a bit this year, posting a 6:8 K:BB with a 3.65 ERA and 1.30 WHIP across 12.1 innings, but he's also picked up four holds, so he has at least some trust to pitch in high-leverage situations.... See More ... See Less -
Guardians' Nick Sandlin: Posts first win
Sandlin (1-1) pitched a perfect inning to earn the win Saturday versus the Athletics. Sandlin worked the eighth inning, and the Guardians took a lead on Richie Palacios' two-run double in the ninth. Over his last 3.1 innings, Sandlin has allowed just one hit with three strikeouts. A couple of bad outings early on inflated his ratios to a 4.70 ERA and 0.91 WHIP, but he's also picked up three holds in eight appearances. He'll be part of the high-leverage mix as long as he can keep poor performances to a minimum.... See More ... See Less
