White Sox's Nick Nastrini: Sent back to Charlotte
The White Sox optioned Nastrini to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.
Nastrini impressed in his major-league debut but was then roughed up by the Phillies in his second start, yielding six runs (five earned) over three innings. The White Sox will need a starter later this week to take Nastrini's spot, with Chris Flexen representing a possibility to fill in.

Nastrini (0-2) allowed six runs (five earned) on six hits and five walks over three innings to take the loss Sunday against the Phillies. He struck out three.
Nastrini was given an early two-run lead but allowed three runs in the bottom of the first to immediately put the White Sox into an early hole. He then was pulled after loading the bases with no outs in the fourth while Tanner Banks entered to finish the damage, allowing all three inherited runs to score. Nastrini allowed only two runs over five in his first start to earn Sunday's opportunity, but a road matchup in Philly proved too much for the White Sox's No. 7 prospect. If Nastrini maintains his spot in the rotation, his next start is tentatively slated to come next weekend, when the Rays visit Chicago.

White Sox's Nick Nastrini: Draws another start
Nastrini is scheduled to start Sunday's game in Philadelphia.
The rookie right-hander will receive another turn through the White Sox rotation after he acquitted himself well in his MLB debut Monday, striking out five and allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks over five innings in a no-decision against the Royals. Though Nastrini was able to pound the zone effectively Monday, fantasy managers may want to tread cautiously with him, given the control issues he's displayed for much of his minor-league career. Between stops at the Triple-A and Double-A levels within the White Sox and Dodgers organizations in 2023, Nastrini posted a 10.8 percent walk rate over 114.2 innings.

Nastrini (0-1) was the pitcher of record in Monday's 2-0 loss to the Royals, striking out five while allowing two earned runs on three hits and two walks over five innings.
Nastrini held his own against a division rival in his MLB debut, flashing a fastball that averaged 93.6 miles per hour and topped out at 95.2 mph. The 24-year-old rookie generated 11 whiffs en route to his five strikeouts. Nastrini is set to make his major-league debut Monday against the Royals. The 24-year-old posted a 7.71 ERA in two starts with Charlotte, although that came with a 13:3 K:BB across seven innings. Nastrini was also impacted by an illness in his first start with Charlotte before pitching better his next time out, allowing three runs (two earned) with an 8:1 K:BB in four frames. He got his pitch count to 78 in that outing, so he should be get for 90 or so Monday.

Nastrini is expected to be called up from Triple-A Charlotte and start Chicago's series opener against the Royals on Monday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Nastrini appears set to make his major-league debut with the White Sox, joining the big-league roster after producing an inflated 7.71 ERA over seven innings in two starts with Charlotte so far this season. The right-hander will look to make the most of his opportunity against a red-hot Royals team.

White Sox's Nick Nastrini: Coming back from illness
White Sox general manager Chris Getz revealed Thursday that Nastrini has been battling an illness at Triple-A Charlotte, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Nastrini made his first start of the season for Charlotte on Wednesday and was bludgeoned for four runs on seven hits and two walks over just three innings, with Getz noting that the right-hander's stuff wasn't sharp, likely as a result of the illness. While Nastrini remains a candidate to start Monday in Cleveland, it's looking like the plan might be to keep him at Charlotte for a while, per James Fegan of SoxMachine.com. The Sox could be leaning toward filling the fifth slot in their rotation with bullpen games until Mike Clevinger is ready, which is expected to happen around May 1.

White Sox's Nick Nastrini: Could start Monday
Nastrini, who is scheduled to make his first start of the season for Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday, could be called up to start for the White Sox next Monday in Cleveland, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
The White Sox headed into Opening Day with a four-man rotation, but had the team included a fifth starter on the 26-man roster, Nastrini might have been in line for the spot. Chicago has since addressed its need for rotation depth with the re-signing of Mike Clevinger earlier this week, but because he missed all of spring training, the veteran right-hander could need a week or more to get fully stretched out before he's ready to make his season debut. After a postponement Wednesday, the White Sox will need a fifth starter for the first time this season Monday against the Guardians, and Nastrini would seem to be the most logical choice to fill the opening if manager Pedro Grifol doesn't opt for a bullpen day instead. Even if he gets the nod Monday in what would be his MLB debut, Nastrini may not be in store for additional starts beyond that if Clevinger is ready to pitch by mid-April.

Nastrini allowed three hits and two walks while striking out two across four scoreless innings in Sunday's Cactus League game against the Athletics.
Nastrini has moved into the rotation picture due to a combination of his strong performances this spring and Dylan Cease being dealt away. He's yet to make his big-league debut but did close the 2023 campaign at Triple-A Charlotte, where he managed a 23:10 K:BB across 19.2 innings. Nastrini has continued to turn heads in the exhibition season, maintaining a 0.82 ERA and 0.82 WHIP with an 11:4 K:BB across 11 frames.
