Mets' Grant Hartwig: Tears meniscus, out 6-8 weeks

Hartwig underwent surgery Friday to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee and will be out six-to-eight weeks, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Hartwig made four appearances for the Mets this season but has spent most of his time at Triple-A Syracuse, where he's logged a 2.31 ERA across 23.1 innings. He'll be sidelined until at least August.

The right-hander will join the Mets despite allowing four earned runs over six innings to begin the season at Syracuse. Hartwig made his MLB debut last season and had a 4.84 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 30:15 K:BB in 28 appearances.

Hartwig has allowed four runs in three innings with Syracuse since being optioned Aug. 18. Nonetheless, he'll come up from the minors to give the Mets a fresh bullpen arm, replacing Denyi Reyes.

The Mets optioned Hartwig to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday.
Hartwig will serve as the Mets' roster casualty in order to clear a space for Joey Lucchesi, who was called up for a spot start Friday. Hartwig has put up a 4.74 ERA and 1.42 WHIP through 24.2 innings since being selected from Triple-A in June, and he could return to the majors if the Mets need a fresh bullpen arm down the stretch.

The Mets selected Hartwig's contract from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports.
Hartwig has collected a 4.21 ERA and 35:15 K:BB over 25.2 innings this season at Syracuse. The 25-year-old will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game. Hartwig is taking the roster spot vacated by John Curtiss.
