The Mets reassigned Hartwig to minor-league camp Sunday. Hartwig is likely to open the 2025 season in the bullpen at Triple-A Syracuse. He previously made 32 relief appearances for the Mets between the 2023 and 2024 seasons, logging a 5.14 ERA and 34:19 K:BB over 42 innings.

  • Mets' Grant Hartwig: Back with Mets as NRI

The Mets signed Hartwig to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. Hartwig was recently non-tendered by the Mets but winds up remaining in the organization. Slated to turn 27 later this month, Hartwig missed a large portion of the 2024 season due to left meniscus surgery, although he returned late in the year. The righty reliever made 28 appearances for the Mets in 2023, collecting a 4.84 ERA and 30:15 K:BB over 35.1 frames.

  • Grant Hartwig: Headed to free agency

The Mets non-tendered Hartwig on Friday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports. Hartwig spent most of 2024 in Triple-A Syracuse, though appeared in four major-league games for the Mets and posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP over 6.2 innings. He tore the meniscus in his left knee in mid-June, but he was able to return to minor-league action in early August. The 26-year-old will look to sign with a team who will give him a chance to compete for a bullpen spot during spring training.

The Mets optioned Hartwig to Triple-A Syracuse on Friday. Hartwig will serve as the Mets' roster casualty in order to clear a space for Joey Lucchesi, who was called up for a spot start Friday. Hartwig has put up a 4.74 ERA and 1.42 WHIP through 24.2 innings since being selected from Triple-A in June, and he could return to the majors if the Mets need a fresh bullpen arm down the stretch.
