Giants' Landen Roupp: Fans eight in win
Roupp (1-1) earned the win Monday against the Phillies, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks over five innings. He struck out eight.
Despite a shaky first inning in which the Phillies plated three runs, Roupp impressed in this 101-pitch outing over which he generated an incredible 20 whiffs. After the three-run first frame, the right-hander settled in and didn't allow another run until a Nick Castellanos solo homer in the fifth. Roupp now sports a 4.80 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 20:7 K:BB over 15 innings. The 26-year-old is currently slated to make his next start on the road against the Angels this weekend.

Roupp sports a 3.60 ERA and 12:4 K:BB through 10 innings over his first two outings of the season, but he lines up for a tough test his next time out, on the road early next week in Philadelphia.

Giants' Landen Roupp: Posts career-high eight strikeouts
Roupp didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against Houston after allowing three runs on four hits and four walks in four innings. He struck out eight.
While Roupp handed out four free passes that drove up his pitch count to 83, he still fanned a career-high eight Wednesday. A Yordan Alvarez single in the fifth inning resulted in two of his earned runs, both of which scored as inherited runners after being pulled. Roupp doesn't figure to have a long leash as a starter, with Hayden Birdsong looming in the bullpen, but he tentatively lines up for a softer matchup at home against the Reds early next week.

Giants' Landen Roupp: Picked over Birdsong for rotation
Roupp will open the season as the Giants' fifth starter, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
He was locked in a heated battle with Hayden Birdsong, who will open the season in the Giants' bullpen. Roupp received the nod after allowing five runs with a 14:1 K:BB over 12 innings during Cactus League play. The 26-year-old made four starts and 19 relief appearances with the Giants last season, finishing with a 3.58 ERA and 47:26 K:BB over 50.1 innings. Roupp doesn't have Birdsong's upside, but he is an interesting arm in his own right and deserves consideration in deeper fantasy leagues.

Giants' Landen Roupp: In tight battle for starting role
Roupp remains neck-and-neck with Hayden Birdsong for the fifth-starter role, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
With Kyle Harrison having been optioned to Triple-A Sacramento, Birdsong and Roupp are now the final candidates for the last starting spot. The 26-year-old Roupp has recorded a 3.75 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 14:1 K:BB over 12 Cactus League innings this spring, and he was considered the frontrunner coming into camp. The right-hander made 23 appearances (four starts) for the Giants in the 2024 campaign, during which he logged a 3.58 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 47:26 K:BB over 50.1 frames. The Giants are expected to get a look at both candidates during Sunday's tune-up game against Triple-A Sacramento, which may help decide the competition.

Giants' Landen Roupp: Fighting for rotation spot
Roupp is still battling for a spot in the Giants' rotation, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports.
Roupp was seen as the leading candidate for the final rotation spot earlier in camp, but Hayden Birdsong is making a strong push for the job with a 0.75 ERA, 0.50 WHIP and 18:0 K:BB over 12 Cactus League innings this spring. Lefty Kyle Harrison remains in the mix as well. "Look, all three of these guys are going to pitch for us this year," manager Bob Melvin said after Sunday's game. "I don't think there's any doubt about that. But it's kind of cool to have three guys that are as talented as they are pitching for that last spot. It means we have some depth, and it means we have a good rotation. To this point, nothing's been decided. Let's put it that way."

Giants' Landen Roupp: Leading fifth starter candidate
Roupp has become the leading candidate for San Francisco's fifth-starter role and appears set to win a roster spot either in the rotation or as a long reliever, Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic reports.
Roupp has had an impressive spring so far, tossing 8.1 scoreless innings with an 11:1 K:BB. Meanwhile Kyle Harrison has struggled this spring (12.27 ERA). There's still time for the race to shift, but Roupp merits a look in deeper fantasy formats. Roupp's sinker-curveball approach induces ground balls and could make him an interesting home streaming candidate at spacious Oracle Park.

Giants' Landen Roupp: Pair of impressive outings
Roupp threw three scoreless innings while allowing one hit and striking out five in Thursday's Cactus League game against the Mariners.
Roupp made his big-league debut in 2024, working primarily as a reliever. However, he's making a bid for the fifth spot in the Giants' rotation this spring and is off to a good start, throwing a total of five scoreless innings with an 8:1 K:BB across two outings. Justice delos Santos of MLB.com also detailed that Roupp developed a cutter during the offseason that he plans to throw primarily against lefties.

Giants' Landen Roupp: Optioned to Triple-A
Roupp was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday.
With Roupp unavailable after starting Friday and the Giants' bullpen lacking fresh options, Trevor McDonald was summoned to take the roster spot. Roupp has legitimate starter stuff, led by an elite curveball, but he has never logged 110 innings in a season and is already 26.

Giants' Landen Roupp: Stuck with second loss
Roupp (1-2) allowed six runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out four over 3.2 innings to take the loss Friday versus the Cardinals.
Roupp had allowed multiple runs in just one of his previous four outings (three starts). He didn't fare so well Friday, allowing one run in the first and third innings before slipping significantly as the Cardinals rallied in the fourth. Roupp finishes his first major-league season with a 3.58 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 47:26 K:BB over 50.1 innings across 23 appearances (four starts). He could be optioned out for a fresh bullpen arm as the Giants prepare for their last two games of the year.

Giants' Landen Roupp: Fares well in start
Roupp (0-1) took the loss against the Brewers on Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three over five innings.
The Brewers piled on four of their five hits against Roupp in the first inning, leading to two runs and a lead they would never give back. Roupp totaled 68 pitches and only allowed an infield single over the subsequent four innings following his rocky opening frame. He's maintained a 1.33 ERA and 1.03 WHIP over nine appearances (20.1 innings) since Aug. 9. It remains to be seen whether Roupp's next appearance will be made as a starter or out of the bullpen and will likely hinge on whether the Giants are able to get Robbie Ray (hamstring) back from the injured list next week.

Giants' Landen Roupp: Starting Tuesday's contest
Roupp will start Tuesday's game against the Brewers, Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
It will be the first major-league start for Roupp, who fired 61 pitches over four scoreless relief innings in his last appearance Thursday versus the Diamondbacks. The righty has split time between the rotation and bullpen this season at Triple-A Sacramento, but he hasn't gone more than four frames in any outing in the majors and minors in 2024; therefore, he'll be relatively limited from a workload perspective.
