Mets' Jett Williams: Sent to minor-league camp
The Mets reassigned Williams to minor-league spring training Sunday, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
The 20-year-old has received reps at shortstop and in center field during the first couple weeks of big-league camp, but he'll shift to the minor-league side after the first round of roster cuts. Williams is the Mets' top prospect and should open 2024 at Double-A Binghamton after he split most of last season between the Single-A and High-A levels, where he had an .876 OPS in 410 at-bats.

Mets' Jett Williams: Will get reps in center
Williams will get work in big-league camp at both shortstop and center field, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
With Francisco Lindor signed through 2031, Williams will likely have to move off shortstop when he gets to the majors. The Mets also indicated the 20-year-old top prospect would not get reps at second base this spring, so it looks as though center field will be his eventual defensive home. "I don't really care," Williams said Friday. "Whatever gets me to the big leagues the fastest." In his first full professional season after being selected with the 14th overall pick in 2022, Williams slashed .263/.425/.451 in 121 games across three levels last year with 13 homers and 45 steals, finishing the campaign at Double-A Binghamton. He'll likely spend most of 2024 in the high minors, but a late-season debut in the majors would set him up to replace Harrison Bader in center for the Mets in 2025.

Mets' Jett Williams: Gets invite to spring training
Williams will participate in big-league camp this spring with the Mets, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.
The organization's top position prospect, Williams is still only 20 years old and got a brief taste of Double-A at the end of 2023, so there's little chance he'll be on the Opening Day roster. He posted impressive numbers in High-A though, slashing .299/.451/.567 in 162 plate appearances and recording more walks (33) than strikeouts (32) before his promotion. The Mets are leaving Williams at shortstop for now, but his ultimate defensive home isn't yet clear as Francisco Lindor is entrenched at that spot -- how the youngster gets used this spring could provide an early glimpse of his likeliest path to the majors. A 2024 big-league debut isn't off the table for Williams if he continues to rake in the upper minors.

Mets' Jett Williams: Moving up to Double-A
The Mets promoted Williams from High-A Brooklyn to Double-A Binghamton on Monday, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Williams will receive his second promotion of the season after he turned in a .299/.451/.567 batting line with seven home runs and 12 stolen bases in 162 plate appearances for Brooklyn upon moving up from Single-A St. Lucie in early August. The excellent showing has earned him a late-season look at the Double-A level, an impressive development considering he won't turn 20 until November. Williams has mostly played shortstop this season but can also handle center field.

Mets' Jett Williams: Jumping to High-A
The Mets promoted Williams from Single-A St. Lucie to High-A Brooklyn on Sunday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Williams primarily played shortstop for St. Lucie but also saw action in center field, and he'll now move up to Brooklyn. The 19-year-old is one of New York's top prospects and had a .248/.421/.399 slash line with five home runs and 32 stolen bases in 78 games at the Single-A level.

Mets' Jett Williams: Dialed in at Single-A
Williams is hitting .290 with two home runs, seven steals, 17 walks and 13 strikeouts in his last 21 games for Single-A St. Lucie.
The 19-year-old speedster has made 48 starts at shortstop and 12 starts in center field thus far in his full-season debut. Williams is 25-for-31 (80.7 percent success rate) on stolen-base attempts through 65 games and has been dialed in at the plate of late.

Williams is hitting .207 with a .401 OBP, one home run and 13 steals in 34 games for Single-A St. Lucie.
The 19-year-old shortstop has a strong batted-ball profile, with a 32 percent groundball rate and all-fields approach, but it hasn't translated into a high batting average in the early going. Even as an undersized 5-foot-6 middle infielder, Williams is strong where it counts and is expected to eventually develop notable over-the-fence power to go with his 70-grade speed.

Mets' Jett Williams: Solid start in rookie ball
Williams has played in 10 games for the Mets' Florida Coast League affiliate, putting up a .250/.366/.438 line with a homer, six steals and a 4:6 BB:K.
He's certainly living up to his name on the basepaths, as Williams has succeeded on all of his steal attempts. The 14th overall pick in this year's draft, the 18-year-old Williams is years and years away from the majors, but he's off to a fine start to his professional career.
