Strotman signed a minor-league contract with the Astros on Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports. Once a prized pitching prospect in the Rays organization whom the Twins acquired along with Joe Ryan in the deal that sent Nelson Cruz to Tampa Bay in July 2021, Strotman has since bounced around. After being dropped from the Twins' 40-man roster in September 2022, Strotman caught on with the Rangers and then the Giants last offseason. He spent the entire 2023 campaign with the Giants' Triple-A affiliate in Sacramento, logging a 6.47 ERA and 1.84 WHIP over 97.1 innings. Though Strotman will get the chance to compete for a spot on the Astros' Opening Day roster, he'll most likely serve as a swingman at Triple-A Sugar Land to begin the 2024 season.... See More ... Giants' Drew Strotman: Sticks with San Fran
Strotman re-signed with the Giants on a minor-league deal Nov. 19. Strotman chose to return to the Giants organization after San Francisco previously designated him for assignment earlier this month before he eventually cleared waivers. The 26-year-old right-hander spent the 2022 season in the Twins and Rangers organization and produced a 6.32 ERA across 52.2 innings at the Triple-A level.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Drew Strotman: Dumped from 40-man roster
Strotman was designated for assignment by the Giants on Tuesday. Strotman was recently claimed off waivers by the Giants but won't stick on the 40-man roster for long. The right-hander pitched in 42 games at the Triple-A level last year and had a 6.32 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 63:36 K:BB across 52.2 innings.... See More ... See Less -
Giants' Drew Strotman: Claimed by Giants
Strotman was claimed off waivers by the Giants on Thursday. Strotman made 42 relief appearances at the Triple-A level in 2022 and posted a 6.32 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in 52.2 innings. He was a fourth-round pick by the Rays in the 2017 first-year player draft, but he hasn't yet made his major-league debut.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Drew Strotman: Scooped up by Texas
The Rangers claimed Strotman off waivers from the Twins on Monday. After being acquired from the Rays last summer along with Joe Ryan as part of the deal that sent Nelson Cruz to Tampa Bay, Strotman was a colossal disappointment in his first full season in the Twins organization. Over his 50.1 innings at Triple-A St. Paul, the 26-year-old righty turned in a 6.44 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 58:33 K:BB. Though the Twins deemed him unworthy of a 40-man roster spot, the Rangers will bring him aboard with the hope of helping him regain the form that once made him one of the top pitching prospects in the Rays' system.... Twins' Drew Strotman: Sent to minor-league camp
Strotman was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports. Strotman was with the Twins in major-league camp but will quickly head over to the minor-league side. The 25-year-old was acquired from the Rays as part of the return for Nelson Cruz in July, and he struggled to a 7.33 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 42:30 K:BB over 54 innings with St. Paul. Strotman will need a better showing in 2022 to have a chance of making it to the majors this season.... See More ... See Less -
Twins' Drew Strotman: Sent to Minnesota
Strotman is part of the trade package the Rays are sending to the Twins in exchange for Nelson Cruz, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports. It's believed to be a four-player trade in total, though Strotman and Cruz are the only names reported thus far. Strotman has been at Triple-A this season and has a 3.39 ERA, 1.43 WHIP and 62:33 K:BB across 58.1 innings (12 starts). He'll likely remain at that level with his new organization, though he's already on the 40-man roster and could see the majors at some point this season.... See More ... See Less -
Rays' Drew Strotman: Solid in early appearances
Strotman, who fired a scoreless first inning against Atlanta in his first start of spring Sunday, has a 3.86 ERA across the 2.1 innings covering his first three Grapefruit League appearances. The right-hander has back-to-back scoreless one-inning efforts after giving up his only earned run of Grapefruit League play thus far on a solo home run versus the Red Sox back on March 5. Strotman struggled to a 5.06 ERA and 1.81 WHIP over 16 innings at High-A Charlotte back in 2019, but it appears he'll continue to be given consistent opportunities against big-league bats for the balance of the exhibition slate.... Rays' Drew Strotman: Added to 40-man roster
Strotman's contract was purchased by the Rays on Friday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports. A 24-year-old righty who was selected in the fourth round of the 2017 draft, Strotman most recently logged five starts at High-A in 2019, where he posted a 5.06 ERA and 1.81 WHIP, but he had previously had success in the lower levels. Given this team's depth of starting pitching prospects, Strotman projects as a reliever long term.... See More ... See Less
