Tigers' Nick Maton: Hits three-run home run Monday
Maton went 1-for-2 with a walk and a three-run home run in Monday's loss to the Phillies.
Detroit fell 8-3, but it was a good homecoming for Maton, who blasted his sixth home run of the season in the seventh inning to break up Aaron Nola's no-hit bid. Maton played for the Phillies the last two seasons before joining the Tigers in the offseason as part of the Gregory Soto trade. Outside of the bright spot Monday, it's been a rough year for the utility player, as he's batting just .167.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Retreats to bench Wednesday
Maton is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Royals.
Maton will exit the lineup to clear a spot at designated hitter for Andy Ibanez, who re-enters the starting nine after a two-game break. Ibanez appeared to supplant Maton as a regular in the Detroit starting nine last week, but Ibanez may be back on the outs for a regular role after going 1-for-31 over his past nine games. Maton, meanwhile, started in each of Detroit's last three contests and went 3-for-8 with a solo home run and three walks.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Goes deep in loss
Maton went 2-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Sunday's loss to the Nationals.
Maton was the only Detroit player with an extra-base hit, as he popped his fifth home run of the season in the sixth inning. This was only the second multi-hit effort of the month for Maton, who's mostly struggled this year with a .165 batting average across 41 games. He gives the Tigers some defensive versatility but can mostly be avoided in fantasy leagues at the moment.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Takes seat versus lefty
Maton is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.
Maton will take a seat while the Tigers deploy a lineup of nine right-handed hitters to counter Pirates southpaw Rich Hill. The lefty-hitting Maton could soon be in danger of seeing fewer opportunities against right-handed pitching as well; he's getting on base at a .194 clip in May and is maintaining a lowly .564 OPS over 130 plate appearances on the season.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Serving as DH again Sunday
Maton is starting at designated hitter and batting fifth in Sunday's game against the Mariners.
Andy Ibanez is continuing to see time at third base, so Maton will serve as the DH for the second straight game. He's batting just .157 with a .570 OPS, so he may continue to cede playing time to Ibanez at the hot corner, while DH starts aren't guaranteed moving forward either. Maton will need to start hitting more consistently soon to maintain a regular role with the Tigers.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Remains out of lineup
Maton isn't starting Friday against the Mariners.
Maton has hit just .136 with two doubles, two RBI, a run, a walk and nine strikeouts over his last eight games, and he'll take a seat for a second consecutive contest with left-hander Marco Gonzales on the mound for Seattle. Andy Ibanez will take over at the hot corner and bat fifth.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Takes seat for series finale
Maton is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Guardians.
The lefty-hitting Maton regularly sits out against southpaws, but he'll find himself on the bench versus a right-hander (Peyton Battenfield) on Wednesday. Though Maton doesn't appear to be on the outs completely just yet, he's beginning to lose work to the hot-hitting Andy Ibanez, who will replace Maton at third base Wednesday after producing a .797 OPS through his first 11 games with the Tigers.

For the second time in the series, the lefty-hitting Maton will retreat to the bench while the Cardinals bring a southpaw (Steven Matz) to the hill. Andy Ibanez will spell Maton at third base and will bat fifth.

Tigers' Nick Maton: On bench for Game 1 of twin bill
Maton is out of the lineup for the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader with the Mets.
With a lefty (Joey Lucchesi) taking the hill for the Mets in the opening game of the twin bill, the lefty-hitting Maton will head to the bench while Zack Short spells him at third base. Expect Maton to re-enter the lineup for Game 2 with right-hander Max Scherzer on the bump for the Mets.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Not starting Tuesday
Maton is out out of lineup for Tuesday's game against Milwaukee.
Maton helped lead the Tigers to a 4-2 win in the series opener Monday, going 2-for-3 with a three-run home run, his fourth of the season. While the 25-year-old looks to be a mainstay in the Detroit lineup, he'll take a seat Tuesday as the Tigers roll out a right-handed-heavy lineup to counter Brewers southpaw Eric Lauer.

Maton singled in the first inning to snap an 0-for-21 skid before ripping a three-run homer in the third. He's up to four home runs this season alongside a .154/.257/.369 slash line through 74 plate appearances. Maton picked up his first extra-base hit since April 14.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Batting leadoff Tuesday
Maton is starting at third base and batting leadoff for the Tigers in the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Guardians, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Maton has been splitting time between second and third base since Tyler Nevin arrived and will settle in at the hot corner for this one. The 26-year-old is hitting just .195 but is showing some surprising pop early in the season with three home runs.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Plays hero off bench
Maton went 1-for-3 with a walk and a walkoff three-run home run in Friday's 7-5 extra-innings win over the Giants.
He began the night on the bench, but Maton pinch hit for Tyler Nevin in the fifth inning and remained in the game at third base, eventually playing hero in the 11th by driving a Camilo Doval fastball over the wall in right field. After hitting only 10 homers in 92 games between Triple-A and the majors last season in the Phillies' organization, Maton has gone yard three times in his first 12 contests as a Tiger. His .194 batting average (7-for-36) and 30.2 percent strikeout rate will need to improve if he's going to continue getting regular playing time.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Goes deep again Wednesday
Maton went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 10-inning loss to the Blue Jays.
Maton went deep in the fourth inning, giving him two long balls in as many days. The 26-year-old hit a career-high five home runs last season as a depth piece with the Phillies, but it seems like he'll see a lot more playing time with the Tigers this year, so he stands a good chance of surpassing that figure.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Batting second Wednesday
Maton will start at second base and bat second Wednesday versus the Blue Jays.
Maton hit a three-run homer in Tuesday's loss at Toronto, providing all of the Tigers' scoring on the night. He has one other extra-base hit this season -- a double -- but is slashing just .120/.290/.280 through 31 plate appearances. Even in a good situation for regular playing time with Detroit, the versatile 26-year-old doesn't offer much fantasy upside at the moment.

Tigers' Nick Maton: Provides offense Tuesday
Maton went 1-for-3 with a walk and a three-run home run in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.
Maton provided all the offense for the Tigers in the 9-3 loss with his first home run of the season in the second inning. It was only the third hit overall for the third baseman, who's batting just .120 in the early going. Maton should continue to see regular playing time, though it remains to be seen if he'll have much of a fantasy impact moving forward.
